As a roofing contractor in Florida I’ve refused to get into the scamming AOB systems that have been going on here since 2015 because I refuse to be involved in this dishonest way of doing business. It has taken my business from a highly profitable, highly rated roofing company to a company that’s barely hanging on because it’s hard to sell somebody a roof when the next guy says he can get it all for free. I hold all three HAAG certifications and a level 3 reviewer certification because I educated myself on what is real damage and what is not I believe 90% of all claims in Florida are fraudulent. I have been installing roofs in Florida since 1988

We’re dealing with the same issues. In business since 1988 the owner recently retired and I bought the company and am trying to revive it. Thankfully we have some loyal property manages that keep us going. My good buddy is using scumbags apex to put a roof on his house after I gave him a killer deal on a 7/12 2 story. Apex is suing State Farm in his name and getting 70k for a 27k roof.

Why not use the appropriate tool instead of a pry bar for repairing shingles? You know like a $10 harbor freight heat gun with your $30 extension cord, combined with a sharpened engine to transmission separating tool and a small hammer?

You can tell the guy's a scumbag when he starts acting black on the roof when he's not even close to it. Front paaaaaiiiiid, front paaaaaiiiiid. Who am I kidding, he wouldn't use it,.

@@JustNo8808 a flat bar works great, as well as a shingling hatchet. But not in 100 degree weather. There’s a reason they sell them at roofer supply stores. I’ve never ever seen anyone use the method you’ve described.

@@roblewis7354 got to use something much sharper when they use double the amount of sealant on a shingle. The sharper it is the easier it'll cut through the sealant. If it's too thick it will just break it.

Cool the shingles with water if too hot and use a rounded mason trowel to easily slide under and detach seal. Works great if you have an experienced set of hands.

People misunderstood the purpose of the first video with Josh Steinberger in KC. Insurance already agreed to pay for repair. Have to prove repair is going to create more damage for them to agree to full replacement.

I am not an expert on subject, but I hear some insurance companies like to see snake tool used to ensure the nails are being addressed carefully in any repair attempt video, and also shingles should not be lifted more than a 45 degree angle as lifting any higher than this is not considered a good faith repair attempt.
@DavidSummerly

@@beckyrileynasby2567 hey Becky, the snake tool is promoted by State Farm, commonly referred to as Snake Farm. The shingle MUST be lifted 90° for a proper repair to be done.

@@ChicagoRoofer that is my understanding as well. Stage that State Farm recommends it so often. It’s been suggested that they may have a stake in that tool’s sales but I think it’s more likely corporate thinks it will save them money.

You don't use a flat bar to unseal shingles. If any of these marketing companies pretending to be construction companies had a single roofer on their payroll, they might know that. You use a sharp tool, such as a paint scraper or 5-in1 tool. You use a flat bar for that, it's going to cause damage.

A pry bar IS the exact tool used by roofers for repairs and every repair manual specifies it. You use that same pry bar to remove the nails. Roofers do not carry painting implements. Insurance adjusters are the only ones who carry paint scrapers 😂

@@bigintexas07 It is a worse tool that takes more time (switching tools, carrying more tools) and is not recommended by any manufacturer or any roofing association's guidelines. Josh is doing everything right, he could be a little more detailed about it. John Senac shows an awesome repair attempts in his videos/trainings! DEFINITELY recommend JTRP training. But As licensed contractors we have a duty to uphold state code. Say someone did just repair that valley metal and did not follow code and it leaks. HO can legally sue the contractor if that contractor didn’t have the right paper work signed. There are lawyers out there that make a living off suing contractors who don’t follow code without the proper paper work

Windshield business same shit. AOBs are no longer legal. I worked for one, helped get them in dealerships to work service lines, then started seeing them collect the agreed upon amount, then sue all the insurance companies on behalf of the clients and while rates aren’t supposed to go up for windshield claims, guess what, they do, when they’re being sued every day, from all companies. But, at the same time, insurances sometimes don’t even pay out enough to cover the windshields. So that’s companies like the one I was with (doing roughly 75 installs a day) would argue, but truth is, only about 10% wouldn’t pay out enough (friends with one of the owners who got bought out bc of the shadiness). Where the real money was at, and will be a major issue is the calibration of the ADAS features and in the end it’s fkn all of us with our insurance rates! So many factors to review, but there has to be an answer. Roofing/windshields, both lost AOBS for very similar reasons. We shall see the outcome.

You may want to clarify and not leave non-roofers who watch in the dark. Enough dustrust in the industry. Simulated or attempted repair and documentation is a very normal part of the process when the insurer thinks an area or component can be repaired and still make the insured whole per their contract. The roofer is showing state farm that damage will occur when trying to remove that valley metal and those box vents. It is very legitimate to document and send to the insurer, as they almost always have no idea what they are talking about in terms of their idea that essentially everything is repairable to the extent of being a permanent repair. Don't act like you don't know or want to ask the comment section in order to garner engagement when you are doing so to the detriment of insureds, insurers and contractors. Just like your 15-30% deposit statement. Now you will create people who watch that video who think 31%+ deposit is for scammers only. Please refrain from all this fake devils advocate stuff.

The 1st video you have to be really careful and I think the biggest problem is when a roofer has decided that he wants or needs that entire roof to be replaced before he’s attempted the repair. Non-repairability/non-pliable shingles if it is not a discontinued shingle then it’s best to take an honest attempt at repairing it, and if it can be repaired, leave it at that I have found we eventually get the entire roof but, it might be down the road. It’s long game Vs short game

Unpopular opinion. Use a grinder and sharpen the flat bar end to separate the shingles bond. Works very well on repairs. I like Jared Jones take on this issue. He laid out the facts. 9% of all the PnC claims nationwide are in Florida however Florida also has 82% of all litigation in the nation. 1 in every 205 residents has an insurance claim. I was originally upset about the changes but after he laid this out I can understand why they changed the law and policy. I am a roofing contractor in Florida and a new homeowner here in 2023. Insurance rates and property taxes are outrageous in Lee county.
