Most informative treatment video so far. Here are my most important notes for when I inevitably return to this when building a new studio: 48:00 High speaker roll-off due to the floor reflection 51:40 Speakers aimed 30cm behind the listener (in surround only?) 37:00 Front wall shouldn't be absorptive, side walls neither 33:40 Subwoofers in the corners of the room cancel out the side to side nulls 👍

He said that he positions the listener one foot in front of the equilateral triangle in both stereo and ATMOS.

@@pesam64 If you follow Acoustic Insiders Phantom Speaker method the triangle is irrelevant. You need to find the sweet spot in YOUR room and that will be unique. 😎

Wonderful to hear an expert telling the truth about Dolby Atmos and saying it's being driven by the industry to make money. Surround sound belongs in the cinema and that's it. Period. 😎

Jesco, Carl were about to tell something about how the subwoofers were set up regarding the phase to cancel out the side to side room modes, but then you asked another question and we wasn’t able to hear this. Could you ask him about that?

Enoch light was supposedly one of the inventors of the stereo field. He produced my cousin’s group Rock Island back in 1969 in NYC. I still have the album and it is a great sounding production.

I'm paused at 15min... I marvel that two studio professionals cannot define STEREO: It comes from the greek word for SOLID. Far from deceiving the listener that there is a third central loudspeaker, the effect is of recreation of a solid 3D image of the recorded musicians and hall acoustic. A phantom hall. As an "audiophile" that has been my goal. I find the best effect comes from recordings made with a crossed pair of microphones. Question: Wouldn't your monitor system suffer less comb filter effect and be better able to recreate stereo if you used concentric drivers like the KEF LS50? Now, Back to the presentation... 🎵🎶😊🎶🎵

If the room is 50 percent of the sound then I do not understand why many insist on mixing or productions in rooms that are too small. IMHO it's more cost effective to begin with a larger room with less problem modes.

Great conversation. Thank you for sharing ! It is quite evident that he has a lot of experience and recognition in the industry . However , I may be wrong , but he didn’t appear to have your technical proficiency or scientific background . Nevertheless , it is good to hear both your perspectives , although the end goals are quite similar .

Hey Jesco! This video was really informative and a joy to watch/listen to. It raised a question in me though... What is more important in a home studio setting? The perfect phantom center or the flattest bass response? Because if you successfully found where the flattest bass response is that spot may not be ideal for creating the phantom center (for example you can not treat the first reflection points). What do you suggest? Thanks!

Thanks for the very intreresting video ! What i didn't exactly understand: Carl explained that he tunes the subwoofers the same using one channel(?) and only level-matches them. So they are mono even when using a crossover freqency of about 120 Hz for the main speakers ??

Apart from cost, is there a reason why active room treatment (Trinnov Wave forming, Dirac ART) isn't discussed?

Gimme a break with the who uses concrete comment. Try visiting Mexico and other places where we build with concrete and not fragile wood that burns, gets eaten by termites and other fails.
