Roos/Elevated Arm Stress Test (EAST)
Test Procedure:
• Pt. sits upright. Therapist blocks shoulder/rib elevation with forearms (modification suggested by IAOM to increase sensitivity). Pt. abducts shoulders to 90°, elbows at 90°, and flexes and extends fingers for 60 seconds.
Positive results:
• A positive test is when the patient’s symptoms are reproduced, or pt. cannot complete the test 2° fatigue
Negative Results:
• No change in symptoms and pt. tolerates test
Implications of positive test result:
• Thoracic outlet syndrome
