It was such bad writing to just throw him aside and I don't mean just when he was killed. They stopped giving him practically any scenes after season 3 for no good reason. So much so that when they finally killed him there was almost no impact. People already forgot he even was a likeable character by that point...
@rhys7391

@@WalCross-yb7tw I think the reason for Roose becoming more and more unimportant in the series was that he kept being overshadowed by Ramsay bc D & D were far more interested in Ramsay and his role as the fan's favourite villain especially after Joffrey's death
@WalCross-yb7tw
9 күн бұрын
@@rhys7391 Yea but that just proves they're bad writers. If you want your main villain to be hyped up in hate you have to make him kill characters the audience loves. So giving Roose more screen time before he got killed would have actually up Ramsay's villainy. Instead it almost felt like he killed a side character at that point.

It's interesting when Theon sees Roose for the first time after leaving for the Iron Islands and becoming Reek. He remembers all the times he made fun of his weird demeanor at table and thinks to himself how horrifying he appears under a different light. He considers himself foolish for ever trying to kid around with him now that he knows how brutal he and his family are.

They kind of dropped this when they loaded all of those character traits onto Ramsey instead. He was downright sadistic, and turned into just the somewhat stern head of the house, he honestly looks less strict than Randyll Tarly, and that guy is just harsh but not exactly evil. He also was incredibly stupid, not seeing just how callous Ramsey was and that he would do anything to secure his inheritance of Winterfell.
@jayb3843

Well I think it's really more so The fact that once they figured out what direction they were going in & The difference's from the books they realized that he was not integral to the story, or even necessary really. Once they made Arya tywin's cup bearer & changed the Sansa& Ramsey part's that Really almost All of the things we learn about him beyond how we see in show as we don't get the "look behind the curtain" and how weird & unsettling he & his existence outside of the battlefield are. We also don't see how All of the smallfolk & other people who interact or exist in his vicinity & without that we don't see the fear or hear the rumor's or any of the details we get in The book because the main character who's POV we are learning it through never goes there. Really at This point in the show the only thing he is actually required for is the introduction of Ramsey & him being named a Bolton no longer a bastard & his rise to power and him being setup as they perfect enemy for Jon. Both are about the same age, both born bastards with the name snow from the north but then they're Also opposites one being cruel & evil who relied on dirty tactics and fear instead of training & learning to be a capable fighter the opposite of Jon especially when they started hinting at the Jon= Azor ahai or prince who's promised/ rightful heir being half targ half stark aka fire & ice. So making Ramsey as evil, vile, cruel and overall hated by the fan's and Jon the most endeared & Noble it made sense to give All of the attributes that roose was meant to have to Ramsey as well as his own. Giving them to roose and diving into his character to build it up would have taken to long and been pointless. Actually I think it would have taken away from the contrast that Ramsey had if roose was Also shown to be similar it would not be as jaring or shocking to the viewers as it would be more expected "that's just how all the Bolton's are" vs Ramsey looking like a psycho who snapped from being disowned and neglected by his dad who was cold & calculated for sure but not shown as cruel or evil in the show, If anything he was Alot like tywin in the show. You could say they both did messed up stuff & one was a backstabber but show roose didn't do anything worse than tywin did, in fact I'd say he did Less than tywin did in the show vs Ramsey who even beat joffery for most hated & depraved

It shows how great the writing (and acting) was back then. When Roose first appeared he portrayed the image of a serious, morose but elegantly spoken competent leader and soldier with sound advice who was committed to Rob Starks cause. By the time the Red Wedding came round we were invested in him as a staunch ally of the Starks. Because he was never a transparent character who showed the devil within, the fact that he turned on the Starks the way he did made it all the more shocking.

I didn't understand why he did that Roose is working for the Lannisters and he knows the consequences if anything happens to Jamie would bring bad consequences but roose make lockie to cut down his hand and tells him to remember it just like his quote to Robb ( Lannister sends their regards). After this jamie do not discuss anything with Tywin and Tywin also doesn't bother about Jamie's right hand when he present him a new Valerian Steel sword
