I don't have a lot of hair anymore. I used to- and I know there's a lot of ya'll that can relate. Things change, we change and then our hair changes and all of sudden we don't know what to do.
I'm just going to say- I am the original #lazycurlygirl so I'm not going to spend a lot of energy on my hair most days. This root clipping trick takes just a few minutes and makes such a difference for me, I hope you'll give it a try and let me know what you think!
Let's start with the clips I use, they are called double prong clips, scroll across to see an image of them. (Next time you're at @thesalonbycaincurls just let us know and we'll send you home with some!)
Next is how I use them-
I diffuse dry until I'm at least 90%dry most days, but you can do this on wet hair too!
1. Take a look at your hair, where is it flat and what's going on at the scalp there? Is your hair thin, fine or low-density? Or is it just not lifted off your scalp, laying flat instead? Your growth patterns and your technique for product application can affect this.
2. Start in the back (I've found it easier to work forward so you're not disturbing the clips you've placed)
3. I start by shimmy-ing my fingers along the scalp to lift up my hair and then I slightly pull it up giving a little tension on the strands.
4. Spritz with hair spray for longer lasting results.
5. While holding the tension, slide your clip onto your hair to maintain the lift while it sets/dries. I like to think of it as rows and I'll use a clip on each end, meeting in the middle. Work your way along the top in your crown area. You can follow with a bit of diffusing along the area or not.
Note: If your hair is wet it may be easier to lift and clip instead of "shimmy" to get the hair off your scalp.
FINISH-
Gently remove each clip and then zhush along your scalp before you release the cast from your curls. The more violent, the more volume you'll create!
