Rory was even known to walk outside of the venue while still playing! Thanks for bringing Rory's music to more people.

Nice reaction! Rory often took inspiration for his songs from books and films (he was a great reader and movie buff). The Classic horror novel 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde' written by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886, and made into a movie starring Spencer Tracy in 1941 is referenced in this song. Rory also said that he wrote the song while ill with a bad flu "...and I think it must have affected me, with the lyrics" - RG The story is about the mild-mannered Dr. Jeckyll, and his evil alter-ego, Mr. Hyde, and is set in Victorian London. As far as I can remember, the movie had nightmarish scenes with flickering light, like from an old movie projector, which might explain some of the imagery in the song. Also, Rory may have partly related to the idea of feeling like two different people, as you've seen, he was very intense, dynamic, and extrovert onstage, (definitely not evil though) but offstage he was quiet, polite, and more introverted. As he said when asked about the differences between his onstage and offstage personas "Sometimes I don't recognise myself up there,.. and sometimes I don't recognise myself when I come off!" Anyway, enough blathering, here is another excellent performance of Shadow Play, with better vocals from Belfast in 1984 kzitem.info/news/bejne/sp6k1JWEmolkfJw
