Hola Oscar!

Los Ángeles means The Angels. Her first work, a stunning selection of flamenco classics choose by her, talks about death. You have to see the videoclip for Catalina, an amazing song about death and love. These songs are not original, are classics and legendary gipsy themes that sounds in Andalucia and rest of Spain. Today, September 5th, Rosalia presents El Mal Querer in L.A. :)

It looks witchy because stereotype. It sounds like grunge because instruments. Look, this is traditional flamenco folk music with a touch of old delta blues and other form of folk music. Creating a feeling of mystical rites, passsion and meditative vibes. Nothing witchy about that. It`s called "real music" and the only reason why you would compare this to Fiona Apple is because she is also intense and real about feelings.
@georgezee5173
6 жыл бұрын
I actually think it looks witchy (only in some parts of the video) on purpose as a nod to flamenco's gypsy roots and how they (at least here in Spain) have always been supersticious and played around supernatural themes, to the point they refer to natural musical talent as "duende", which is Spanish for "goblin".

@@georgezee5173 Dear, Flamenco has many roots, not just Gypsy. And the connection between Gypsies and some "witchcraft" or "magic" is a stereotype. Not disagreeing it sounds and look mystical, but that isn't a rare happening in flamenco and little it has to do with Gypsies, and probably lots it has to do with its common themes, and how ancient it is, indeed. It is actually believed that the pre-Medieval seeds of flamenco can be in forms of ritual music, from Tartessos, Gadir, etc. and blended in later with the Moors musico-religious traditions and the Gypsy rites of passage.

Her first album "Los Angeles", was "her graduation" as flamenco singer ( she said), Also the lyrics of "los ángeles" were very old songs that Rosalía wanted to rescue because some of them were almost forgotten. The new album than it's being release now it's different, because Rosalía wants to explore many others musical references

I liked the final comments a lot. I agree on how the eerie melody contrast with these 'no-places' around Los Angeles and how that adds to a even more eeire atmosphere. It probably feels weirder if you're from LA since you're looking at these known, ordinary places and there is this girl dancing her weird dance, singing her weird song, like she was some sort of supernatural appearence.
