I got covid so you get jazz :)
I've been wanting to post a project like this for a long time. Carlos Eine of insaneinetherainmusic is a huge influence on this video's style. Being a long-time fan of his, this video was a blast to make, and I plan to continue making videos like these and improve my playing and arranging along the way. Super Mario Galaxy is one of my favorite games of all time, and its music is superb (and absolutely nostalgic). I put together an arrangement of the comet observatory on Musescore and decided to expand it to fit this current instrumentation - enjoy!
Last week I tested positive for Covid-19, so with the extra time under my belt (and not being able to leave the house), I decided to finally put together a jazz arrangement video. It's definitely not perfect, and I need to work on my improvisation skills. Hopefully I'll be able to look back on this as a much more skilled musician!
Equipment:
Shure SM57 (Mic)
Getzen Capri (Trumpet)
Frankenstein Trombone (Thank you Doc Carmichael for getting me started on a new instrument!)
Not my bass (courtesy of Noah Vaughn Wegner)
Studio Dummer 3 (Drums)
Yamaha Clavinova (circa 1990 model)
Ableton Live (DAW)
The Clavinova had a couple of sticky keys towards the middle (especially the fourth F#) so I had to play everything down an octave and adjust it up an octave in post. It being a MIDI instrument both hurt and saved it! Other than that, I had to pitch correct a couple of trombone notes to prevent some nasty clashes!
