Rose cutting
The cutting is the fragment of a plant specially cut and placed in the ground or in the water to regenerate the missing parts, thus giving life to a new specimen. Most of the time it is a branch destined to take root.
It is a method of reproduction that exploits the enormous regenerative properties of plants, in particular that of differentiating the undifferentiated (meristematic) tissue; a plant cell is in practice able to regenerate lost parts much better than an animal cell.
In fact, the cutting can be formed starting from a fragment of leaf, stem or root.
Rosa L., 1753 is a genus of the Rosaceae family which includes about 150 species, native to Europe and Asia.
It includes bushy, sarmentose, climbing, creeping, shrubs and saplings with large or small flower, in bunches, panicles or solitary, simple or double, achene fruits contained in a false fruit (rosehip); there are over 30 spontaneous species in Italy, of which we remember R. canina (the most common), R. gallica (not very common in heaths and stony places), R. glauca (frequent in the Alps), R. pendulina (common in the Alps and the northern Apennines) and R. sempervirens.
The remontant 'climbing roses' must be pruned according to the vegetative vigor, removing the old branches (old wood) and shortening the new branches.
The multiplication usually takes place by cutting of shoots of the year already lignified and planted in a box at the end of summer, or by vegetative eye grafting in spring summer.
In industrial crops with the varieties grown for the cut flower, the grafting on the subject is practiced R. indica var. major which provides the right vigor to the net
To have plants resistant to drought or frost, R. canina obtained by sowing is used as the subject, obtaining, however, not very vigorous and poorly developed objects.
