Hello Arran of Alba 😊 ~ I know the glens and the places you describe so well .... I stumbled across ‘Bruces cave’ at Hawthorn den about 40 years ago. I meditated in the wonder of the place, a treasure indeed. But back then it was accessible without a climb. I think the lovely Heinz people have removed the access as part of their very insular privacy policy. It is a loss that mystery and wonder (they encourage in writers retreats) is lost to the common person as part of our heritage 🤷🏼♂️ Still, glad you found it & it inspired you ~ a;} ~

I love your attitude! No one ‘owns’ heritage. Not to the extent that they can forbid everyone from studying it: especially when they are not actually living on the property!!!! They didn’t make it! I understand all the liability issues associated with ‘guests’ but the fact is, explorers may be crazy but they are not suicidal. And as for vandalism… well… the best way to avoid vandalism is to have people on the property keeping an eye out. The owners would be best off creating a society for the ‘peaceful enjoyment’ of the place. Best deterrents for opportunistic bastards, are clothes on a line, smoke out a chimney, light through a window and music in the air. Take care! Philip in the wild gold fields of Australia.

Thank you brother for your strong words! I completly agree with you and i think that much of our history is conceled and we are led to beleive what they teach. My motto is to question everything as too much of what i have heard turned out to be bullshit! Big country you have ma man! I spent a year over there when i was a teen and it taught me a lot! Mind you i spent most of my time up in Darwin!

@@ArranOfAlba I really admire how you let yourself go and revel in the mystery. But then you laugh at yourself and carry on. My father was a deep one. And he used to say: ‘we are all the primitives of the future, this the fait of all humanity in the flux of time.’ Trying to step beyond a simple linear understanding of time, is to respect how history effects every aspect of our lives: our group identity, our individuality our aspirations and fears. The razor that cuts though the bullshit, is same one our ancestors depended on: what are the facts? What resources do we have at hand? How much time do we have to get the job done? When you look at any site with those questions in mind AND knowing with the benefit of hindsight what they did achieve, you can stand in their shoes.

Cool video! I have been inside the main area of caves under Hawthornden Castle about 9 or 10 years ago. The owner reluctantly let me in and said it would be the last time he would let visitors in. There is a large tunnel carved straight through the rock with small rooms that lead off of the main tunnel. There is a large well at the centre of the main tunnel as well. There is a doo'cot carved into the wall in one of the rooms. Nothing mysterious but it was great to see. Hope this helps!

A cool video lad but you missed the prehistoric carvings which for me is an unbelievable experience sitting there knowing our super ancient ancestors sat in that very spot. If you ever go back gies a shout 👍

There are not so many birch in the area, but many oaks, elm, ash and ancient yews still exist. Back of the hills is full of liberty caps 🤣😂

Love this area when you film it, you make my brain chill. Bruce's cave is awesome, makes me think just slightly of the Hopi people, who would pull up the ladders behind them as defense. LOL, Please don't get busted if you can, rather have you free. Out takes! Lol.
