To all the form-nazi haters....lighten up and get over it. I row on the water - and while yes, Ross would not be able to get away with this technique on the water - it does not detract from the fact that the man has a f--k load of power. And that's the point - a 500m ergo is not about who has the nicest technique, it's about who can crank out the most wattage. So, based on that, what Ross has pulled off IS a massive achievement and you have to respect it as such, until we see the Bonds, Murrays, McCabes and Sbihis of the world step up and take down Ross' time. Mad respect to Ross and am excited to see what else he can do on the ergo.

Separating out the specific parts and tools for each of the seven step assembly process steps was brilliant on the part of the manufacturer. For the price, I am impressed at how sturdy this kzitem.infoUgkxvObaTzoHoHQLL4lHbJQmExHqsrZQm-f7 unit is and it does go together easily. Well, I was puzzled at first at Step 5 and maybe the instructions should mention that rail #62 needs to be tilted upwards a little to get the rail to fit into the main part #44. I like it that the rower can be stored vertically in a really small amount of space, but be forewarned that this rower is top heavy and for safety you'll need at least two bungee cords to keep the unit upright, attaching them to something; in my case to a third garage door. I have had this unit only a short time, and I will post an update once I've had it for a year. As for working your legs, I have to admit that I'm mainly rowing for upper body strength and I use other forms of exercise for leg strength (like walking fast, biking, or using a trampoline. But if you pull as far forward as possible, then you can give preference to your legs for the first 4 feet or so of travel. I also admit to not taking the two electronic connectors apart at Step 7. I simply inserted the two batteries while the other parts remained connected. By the way, there is plenty of resistance here, even in the lowest resistance settings. Kudos to Sunny Health & Fitness !

Some of the comments here are staggering. I'd bet most of them haven't ever sat on a Concept 2, or if they have, they've never tried an all our 500m sprint. The technique is completely different to that of a longer row. It' is a sprint, and a short slide (ie, shorter ROM in legs) is more efficient. It might look ugly, but you don't criticize Usain Bolt for running differently from Haile Gabrselassie.

The form comments are kind of interesting. Seems like most top competitors at 500m are using "bad" technique, but in reality it's probably the perfect technique for a pure 500m sprint. It may be the quads can generate the greatest force at a pure anaerobic pace over a short range of motion at high tempo with the knees not fully bent. So it looks ungraceful. Big deal. Get over it!

This is such as amazing effort. Great sprinting technique - staying within maximum torque range for his body type on the erg for this distance (as if that isn't evident by the time?). The sweet-spot between range of motion used, damper setting and SPM will vary between people. I guess many people assume that the "standard" form for 2000m + is what will generate the best results for shorter distances. Most will benefit from changing their form between distances - this is common sense to anyone who has experimented with various distances in rowing or many other sports for that matter. The 100m running sprint is quite different the 1500m in terms of form...same applies to a bicycle, ice-skates, etc Now it doesn't mean you can't get through any distance using the same form but clearly using the same form on a 1500m run will not get you the fastest time in a 100m dash - or the other way around. It all depends on what your goal is. I am very curious to know why people are so quick to judge or negatively question/comment on someone that is able to perform at this level rather than try to learn something from them. There are so many examples of people breaking barriers by switching or combining styles, equipment, training methods, etc Why not try these different styles out for yourself and see what produces the best result for you?

j102srf is it at the proper resistance for the official record?

I think Brian shaw would beat this, he almost snapped the machine, and get the 100m world record of 12 seconds

I'm a strongman fan but Brian would have a heart attack at that pace after the halfway point! 500m is short but always feels longer than you expect. My best is 1:30 but the start was in the 1:17 range...

It's not on the hardest level. It's maybe on level 8 of 10. I know this machine.

Is that really a record? I don’t even row at the collegiate level anymore and I can still crank out a slop technique 1:28 with relative ease
@sir_humpy

He pulled 938 W while 1:28 is 514 W. The difference in wattage is the same if you compare your 1:28 to a 2:37.
