Terror Trax were originally choose your own adventure audio CD's marketed by TSR/Wizards of the Coast in 1994. In 1996, this full motion video computer game got released based on one of the original audio CD's. Four audio CD's were released by TSR: Track of the Vampire, Track of the Werewolf, Track of the Creature, and Track of the Mummy. I have all four. I purchased them back in the day to snag some cool samples to toss into my industrial music that I was making at the time. I'm sure that now, if you look online, you can find copies of these CD's that you can download and play. They're literally audio CD choose your own adventure stories. As I remember, the audio CD of Track of the Vampire offered you a LOT more choices than what this video game version does. They cut out quite a bit for the video game version, probably due to limitations to how much video they could stick on that CD. The audio in those audio CD's are often quite funny. They too walk that line of, "Is this a self aware comedy, or are they trying to play this straight?". There are some great segments of audio to sample and toss into music in them though.

I can actually see an X-com or Darkest Dungeon style game with the premise of running a secret organization of monster hunters in the vein of Delta Green, the S.C.P. Foundation or T.R.A.X. It could start small with you making a character as a solo operative or member of a local team and as you progress, you do more research and expand your resources and influence to run cells in multiple cities and eventually make your way to a national level. You get a tech-tree based around different archetypical paranormal organizations (exterminate the monsters, lock them up and study them, be purely mundane, employ supernatural elements). You get events and decisions like choosing to stay hidden or go to various groups for funding and support. Staying completely secret means you have no oversight and can operate more freely but your recruits and supplies cost more and there is a greater risk of operatives getting caught up in legal trouble on missions while going to a sponsor is better on all the cost-based and manpower respects (governments give you trained soldiers and police officers for recruits more consistently and the same gear available to such groups, for example) but you have to deal with your sponsors forcing missions and imposing restrictions.
