I had the same problem with loading. I found that ridge after some investigation. I used a fine round file to smooth the ridge and remove almost all of it on the left and upper edges and now it loads better but still not perfect. I went in from the magazine tube side after removing the tube; it took a few hours of filing. I thought about sending the gun to Rossi for a fix but decided against that since they screwed up the first time and there is no guarantee about getting it back in a timely manner. There are other issues with this gun that I'm working on just as you did. There are too many flaws with this gun that you won't find with other quality made guns such as Winchester, Marlin or Henry. Of course those guns cost more but in the long run they are worth the extra money. I won't buy another Rossi. Good video.

It takes some effort, but worth it

Great video! How did you get into or what did you use to smooth out the ridge that was hanging up rounds as you were loading them?

Started with a round file to test, and it worked great. Then I stripped it completely and smoothed out the ridge with a rotary tool. Used a metal bit, then a sand stone, then sandpaper. Got it to a smooth ramp

Take about as much metal off the other side of the loading gate spring and you're set. Sounds crazy I know but you need to take 2/3 of the width off to have it finger friendly. You went too deep on one side....the best way is to scribe 2 lines lengthwise to denote 3 equal strips and then grind the 2 outside ones off. all that spring does is return the gate to it's closed position after you load a round.

Very informative video,I was thinking about taking some off the loading gate to make it easier to load but I was thinking about taking some off of both sides as opposed to just taking it off of one side like you did. I wouder if there is any pro or con to taking it off of both sides ? Also I am curious how much you took off the Magazine spring ? I took some off of mine as well but I only took off 1-1/2 inches. I can handle pushing the shells in better now but would like it even easier than it is now. I am also shooting 38 Special in mine as I like the reduced recoil and increased ammo capacity. I have the 16 inch barrel stainless version. Thanks for the Good video and for taking the time to read this.

Thanks! I think if you removed it from both sides it would potentially have issues resetting to normal

@@NickShootsStuff I just want to make sure that I asked the question properly Nick. At about 1:37 on your video it shows the loading gate laying flat with the concave area where you removed Material on the right side. What I am talking about is instead of removing 1/3 from the right side what about removing say .1667 from the right and .1667 from the left side to make a total of approximately the same 1/3 of reduction ? This would endup looking somewhat like this, )( or an sorta hourglass shape I hope I explained it better this time ! Also how much more of the Magazine spring do you think I could take off to make loading easier ? I have already taken 1.5 inches off of the spring . I have read somewhere (I cant remember where as Have a poor memory being in my mid sixties !)that Rossi uses the same magazine spring in the 16 barrel which I have and 20 inch and the 24 inch . What barrel length is yours ? Thank's again

@@billyhenard1473 I think the reason we leave material on one side is so it has more strength to reset. If you remove a little on both there might be too much play. You can certainly try! I removed a LOT of spring, I only have 2" sticking out. I have a 16" barrel.

@@NickShootsStuff I think that I am going to take the Material off the way that you did it as it seems to be working fine . Sounds like I have more than enough spring to take some more off the magazine spring. With the spring cut off how many 38 special rounds can you now put in the in the Magazine ? I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question's Nick
