Looks like a winner. Particularly seems more friendly for melodic use than a typical complex oscillator.

The trident slowly has become my favorite oscillator since I added it to my rack about two years ago. It can go all bonkers if you want to, or do very traditional synth sounds, and when in sync it has that hard sync sound that reminds me of the old Roland System 100. Very versatile, exceptional building quality for eurorack, and perhaps more importantly, I got it when the price was half of what it is now. I wouldn't pay $900 for it no matter how great it is.

Man eurorack has the pull of a black hole! I have a few semi Modular’s (first attempt to stay away from eurorack). Then tried the 1/4 inch only rule (sherman/sub 27/ cp351). But the Rossum Morpheus got me. So I Made a pact with myself to only build a stereo audio processor, (custom effects box if you will) Would love the trident but it’s going to lead me down the I need many envelopes , vca’s etc….🤦🏻 Going to try appease this demon by getting the evolution filter instead 😂 Enjoyed listening though cheers 👍 really interesting design. Build quality on the Morpheus is outstanding & I imagine this is the same. Dare I watch those assimal8r vids again 🤔

Yes, they are very nice. The knobs feel very good, although they are actually pretty regular ones from taking it off and looking. I think you can but the same kind for very cheap on Amazon. But they are not low quality. The layout is odd here. Definitely an engineering layout and not a musical one. Seems the patch points and knobs are simply where they are closest on the pcb. Given Rossums reputation, I would be that the pros and cons of pcb grounding or or some other engineering concern was discussed when optimizing the layout. Not easy to fit 24 knobs, 18 patch points and 6 buttons on anything really.

Slew it or use a filter or waveshaper to sine it. That’s the only thing that all these triangle core oscillators are doing for a sine anyways. I’m not quite sure that I’ve run into a scenario where I wanted a sine and doing this would somehow not work just as well.

there are so many multi-osc combo VCOs like this, with amazing FM inputs, as well as other mathematical parameters. But then they ruin it by not providing a sine wave out. I would exclusively use this thing if it only put out sines. Just my opinion I guess...
@bitegoatie

Ace cakes it is, then. Love me my Rossum, but good grief is that subtitle for the Trident a terrible turn of language approximation. Best just to say it’s a triple oscillator and to leave it there. The module deserves better - it’s another masterpiece for Rossum. That Stereo Dipole is fabulous as well, though I didn’t comment there. I can’t keep up with all the compelling modules coming out in the last few years. Money is the issue. There is certainly no lack of good modules. Speaking of money, someone with enough of a user base and modules to sell really ought to release a good-quality power/rack-case combination on a subsidized basis, just to address that huge barrier to entry. Most people who resist all this stuff in modular cite the cost of the cases and power supplies (on top of the necessary utility modules) as maybe the major hurdle preventing them from buying appealing products like these. Not that these two companies are candidates, but maybe a group of module producers could do it as a consortium. It seems like the field could still grow quite a bit even among current synthesizer buyers. Oh well, ace cakes will have to do for now.

This was thought through, ensemble, laying an accent on the intended use. This module will inspire builders I think.
@DrPHD-tl1sm

I could easy see myself having ignored this at first glance if it had been subtitled something as generic and useless as triple oscillator. On top of that it would be misleading as providing three discreet oscillators is far from the purpose of this module.
@bitegoatie
5 жыл бұрын
So, Doctor, “Multi-Synchronic (sic) Oscillator Ensemble” tells you something helpful or interesting about the module? No - the demonstrations, by Ben and by Rossum people, show the obvious value in the module. Just looking at it tells you it is more than a simple triple oscillator. The word salad I quoted adds nothing to that but a bit of cringe. To me, having no subtitle at all would be better than what they printed there. A subtitle tells you the author harbors doubts about the title, as though somehow the title (usually one with a broad resonance that looks, in the end, to the author or editor, too opaque to stand on its own) needs an explanation. Here, the thing is clearly an oscillator, “Trident” implies a triple, and all those holes and knobs and buttons tell you it does some tricks. It being a Rossum, most likely customers already understand the product will be worth a closer look and that it will have some distinguishing selling point. Only real marketing copy (supplemented by a technical paper, optionally) or/and a demo will tell you about all the juicy details. A subtitle can’t do that, and in practice they never do that work. Could a better subtitle be written - one that does the normal subtitle thing of clarifying a clever title that does not serve the descriptive purpose of a title? Yes, of course, but “Trident” on its own would be fine. If you find the subtitle speaks to you in the way you suggest (say, if you decided to watch this video on account of interest the subtitle inspired), that datum of taste shall find no dispute here. I can tell you from long experience with language and selling things that not many people give something like that phrase a first look, let alone a second. Again, the module is superb, which is what matters. The subtitle could be much better.

Bibi like I said I hadn’t made it through the whole video. The interludes do because they’re examples of the synth in a full production setting. But a lot of this video is the raw sound, so it’s weird that this person is complaining about how there isn’t raw sound.
