You people can talk bad about him all you want, but he set the standard along with some other guys to the quintessential rock star lead man, Dave could do no wrong in his day. Even if he was on Coke, he still had some solid answers for Joan, was very positive guy and could make people laugh. He truly lived the dream most of us have in our minds as the "rock star".

+Chadnmurfreesboro Come on dude I'm not trying to give you grief or piss you off but Roth can't be the standard when he blatantly ripped off Jim Dandy ( Hair, clothes, stage persona, makeup & Roth even adopted parts of J.D's personality into his alter ego Diamond Dave ) Jim Dandy took that creation as far as he could & D.L.R picked it up & just took it a lot further than J.D could have ever taken it & I'm glad that he did because I've been a fan since Women & Children First but in this case Jim Dandy set the standard... I say that & I'm not even a fan of Jim Dandy or his music ( I hate that fucking song, Jim Dandy to the rescue ) but I have to give credit where credit is due

Jim Dandy was the lead singer of a southern rock group called Black Oak Arkansas. You can see lotsa their stuff on KZitem. The "California Jam" footage of them (1974) is a good example of him looking like Roth. Well, he was at least a few years before Roth, lol. :D
@theadventuresofrussandcoco2077

Totally agree. That guy is one in a million. He did an interview with Joe Rogan not too long ago (2 hrs. 40 min!) where he is totally calm and you can see his level of being well read at the very least. He has a level of intellectualism and comedy that is missed by the copiers. Rock bands never smiled until Van Halen showed up and showed how it could be fun.
@bondurango
6 жыл бұрын
Back in the day, the "standard" that Jim Dandy set was called "crotch" rock. But, in my opinion, the biggest influence on the "hair band" look and stage persona were the various acts that performed alongside Dandy at the California Jam including Ted Nugent & ELP. Roth is the comedic Lounge Lizard version.

Lot's of comments here about Dave on drugs and acting effeminate, well, that maybe but did you ever see Robert Plant back in the day? the heaviest rock band of all time and every bit as effeminate as Dimond Dave, also remember it's show business and Dave is always putting on a show, I just saw a 2 hour plus interview with him on Joe Rogan and he seemed just as high then as here, but he wasn't high on coke or anything, it's just his way, he's full on all the time, that can get old but for an interview and telling stories, it's great. He's one of a kind, no one will be able to copy him or his lifestyle. How many Rock super stars become ambulance drivers at age 50 just for the heck of it, worked as a first responder for 4 summers, that is amazing, but he never stops, has more energy than anyone I've seen. He never married and I like that, some people are made to stay single, I can relate to it and he never comes close to showing regret of apologizing for his style.
