A hike up Round Mountain on 06/19/2024. With a fairly low elevation of 5,369ft, Round Mountain doesn't sound like that interesting of a hike or climb. But don't be fooled into ruling this little mountain out. Round Mountain (the one just outside Darrington, WA) has the 8th highest prominence of any peak in Washington. This, and its close positioning to the peaks of the Mountain Loop and North Cascades, gives Round Mountain a great "bang for your buck" when it comes to views. The route is no harder/longer than the popular hike to the Mount Pilchuck lookout and I would argue this is a better hike overall based on the views you get and the lack of huge crowds. Get out there and check it out!
