Even after 25 years I still miss my Vitesse. Now, unfortunately, because so many were scrapped back then, often because they had failed their MOT on some trivial thing, so many owners sadly decided they weren't worth spending the money on, it just means they are extremely rare, and the prices are skyrocketing. The Vitesses, as in the video, have become a very rare car. Twin plenum versions were only offered towards the end of production, (the last 200 cars off the line as a homologation model to keep the SD1 racing), and the fact that this one is also on an E plate makes it especially rare. Production ended in '86 which would have meant they were registered on a D plate. But the story goes that the Met Police snapped up eight of these last 200 cars, and mothballed them for a year before registering them. The Police had had a long appreciation for the SD1, but were apparently less than impressed with its replacement, the 800, so they wanted to keep a few in the fleet for as long as possible.

yea/ yes you are correct, thanks... i AM LUCKY TO HAVE A 1986 VITESSE TWIN PLENUM V8 IN GOOD RUNNING CONDITION AND i LOVE DRIVING IT. Ohhh. capitaol-lock was on, anyway, I love my Rover Vitesse TWIN_PLENUM, The later ones were fairly reliable with very few electrical or electronic problems with the later models. However I am an electronics technician by trade and i understand most of the the rover wiring diagram, so if I can help someone with the wiring diagram, so be IT.. Regards Tommy,

What sort of money are these beauties fetching these days in this condition?

The last time I saw one up for sale it was £15k. I had one in the mid nineties, when I was 19, and loved every minute of it, apart from the regular visits to petrol stations! Although it was scruffy it was solid, with a strong engine and I paid £500 for it. Unfortunately those days are long gone. Back then you couldn't visit a scrap yard without seeing at least half a dozen SD1's in there, often in pretty decent nick, but then they were just seen as old uneconomical cars and they were two a penny. Because so many of them were scrapped they are now pretty rare, with many of the survivors being well cared for examples, which are starting to fetch more and more money. According to the DVLA there are only 300 odd SD1's still on the road, which would explain why the values are rising. If you can afford it though, buy one, you won't regret it. Only buy a V8, preferably a Vitesse with a manual 'box, although a Vanden Plas EFI is virtually the same, apart from slightly softer suspension, leather seats and I think they only came as automatics, but I can't be certain.
