@@Heaven-dy9lj I think older wrestling was WAAAAAY better, but you can't come into a video about Bret Hart, and say the new guys take themselves too seriously. Bret's whole career (as well as most guys from that era), were defined by guys protecting their spots. Protecting the business. ect ect ect If anything, the guys today DON'T take themselves seriously enough. You got guys fighting on TV at 8pm, and then by 11pm they're on twitch playing video games together.

@@Lostmymind1 Not talking of the business side in terms of seriousness. I'm talking of the characters and material. Dusty Roads, camp colorful, Honky Tonk Man nonsense joke, Rowdy Roddy - loud mouthed, Slik, Bobby The Brain Weasel, Akeem. The list goes on and on. These characters were not dark, they were colorful joke characters, akin to pantomime.AND there were jokes galore with Jesse, Mean Gene, Bobby and Monsoon. So many classic comedy skits with Monsoon and Brain, so many classic one liners .It was SUPERB at this time. You just don't get this today. I saw it getting dark and serious for the main part with the characters 2000 on wards.
So sad he's not with us anymore. I think the damage was already done though from his hard partying days mixed with the brutal schedule of the wrestling world of the 70s 80s and 90s. So many legends have gone. R.I.P Roddy.

there was a time, when wrestler would develop themselves based on the own personality and charisma, the result being that mostly only the ones that had a natural charm and intrigue about them would rise to the top because the fans WANTED to see them. the star power and the mystique of past wrestler was a natural and undeniable phenomenon. such wrestler do not exist anymore. you cannot manufacture a STAR. star quality is an inherent characteristic and no amount of scripted talk and phony personalities will ever change this. the wrestlers around today have no natural appeal whatsoever and are forced down the throats of the fans because there is little else to choose from. or, like me, i stopped watching it for the last two decades. i just don't care about these guys at all. nobody even knows who the world champ is now...or cares.

@@JimmyFoxhound thanks, i wish it wasn't true. i so miss the personalities of the past. those guys were magical and had an undeniable presence and aura about them. i am a man, but those guys would give me chills. there is all the difference in the world....its the difference between a good actor and a STAR. a STAR doesn't have to be a good actor. ric flair, when he went to the ring, was ric flair. today you have guys acting like they are somebody else or they are trying to be somebody else and they are doing a terrible job of it. when flair talked in front of the camera, it was raw and pure, not something that was written down. it was pure and spontaneous and he only kept getting better. no one could ad lib and go on a diatribe like ric flair. and a lot of times it was corny but still cool and often what he had didn't even follow a logical pattern but it was still beautiful and entertaining. they let it flow back then and didn't care about it being carefully worded and precise. back then, there were terrotories and each had their own way of talking and doing things and the result was a wide assortment of different and interesting wrestling personalities. now it has become too corporate and the wrestlers have all become generic and unoriginal and, most of all, uninspiring. wrestling became a victim of its own success. big business draws corporate attention. this caused over hyped event and competition. when vince mcmahon resorted to pushing a vulgar and sleazy product to win, that was the beginning of the end. the end started with the attitude era, in my opinion. i liked STUNNING STEVE AUSTIN much better than STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN.

my favorite piper moment : when he interviewed that jobber, frank williams, during a pipers pit segment, and ended up insulting frankie and telling him that he never seen him win a match ( hahahaha, well of course, he is a jobber...but to actually come out and point it out....!! hahahahaha!! ) and piper gets annoyed and beats the hell out of williams just because williams was trying to talk back. there was no bigger fan than me of piper as i was hooked by his antics right from when he started out. however, i hate to admit, i don't quite feel the same about him. he became lazy about wrestling and it showed in his later matches. he also started relying to much on his reputation rather then working on creative matches. the physical damage and the illicit drugs he took ruined him. more so the drugs. i can see piper drinking....but i was surprised about the drugs. he looked in decent condition in this video, but if you watch some of his later shoot interviews, he is a complete burn out who can't keep his train of thought and is a mumbling incoherent mess. it was sad to see. to my perception of him....he had lost his lustre badly. its a pity.

The fact they learned about the impact of CTE long after Piper was done. I get your point but they just gave wrestlers money and access to drugs and if you got injured you weren’t getting money.
