Approximately 500 metasequoia trees are planted on the prefectural road Koaraji Makinozawa Line, which runs through Makino Pickland in the same way as the town road Sawa Makino Line, which extends for 2.4 km, and is used as an approach road to Makino Highlands (Makino Ski Resort). It forms a landscape typical of a plateau. This row of trees was first planted by the Makino Town Fruit Tree Producers Association in 1981 as part of the school children's farm ``Makino Learning Village''. It has been cared for and nurtured by people, and since then the prefectural road has been planted and extended, resulting in its current majestic appearance. Metasequoia is a deciduous tree of the genus Metasequoia of the Cedar family, native to China, and its Japanese name is Akebonosugi. The tree height reaches 35m. It is named meta (transformed) sequoia because its appearance resembles that of the sequoia, which is said to reach a maximum height of 115 meters. The symmetrical landscape created by the rows of cone-shaped metasequoia trees and straight roads that are beautiful in all seasons, with budding and fresh greenery in spring, deep greenery in summer, colored leaves in autumn, and bare trees and snow flowers in winter, with the Nosaka Mountains in the distance. It harmonizes with the mountains and attracts visitors.
