Bought this on vinyl upon release. Great album. Saw Harper a couple of times in the eighties, sadly always missed those moments when Page would turn up for a jam with him.

Hangman Last night I wasn't sleeping I knew it was my last I've just been lying thinking Reliving all my past My family and friends have left My children are all lost And now I'm standing in a death cell As the sands of time fall fast My poor heart it is thumping My head is fit to flood To feel that rope around my neck And know it's there for good I know that I am innocent And no one's understood And now I'm standing on the gallows To be murdered in cold blood We are creatures of darkness Killers of time We are creatures of darkness Bodies in lime Hangman oh hangman How sleepless is your bed I can't believe my own ears My heart is full of lead That you'd apply and get the job Of pulling off my head And leave me kicking in the darkness Splattering the walls with blood Hangman oh hangman You're working in the shade For creatures of the jungle Whose message is displayed In graphic tones of blood revenge All down the civil blade And you're the creasy little monkey Who murders to be paid And in about six minutes time I'll be thrown into the lime By the screws who dug my grave Who never felt the shame Who threw me in still breathing As they covered me with slime And stuck me on a map in the governors office A number with no name We are creatures of darkness Killers of time Creatures of darkness Bodies in lime And as true as I stand here I would wish to be untied To rip those lies clean out your throats That my death might somehow be justified There's no unconsecrated ground In my heart or in my mind I lived and died in a world full of snakes And I'm buried in a vicious lie We are creatures of darkness Killers of time Creatures of darkness Bodies in lime

Strangely, they had Roy Harper on BBC1 Breakfast TV this morning, right after I got back into his music yesterday!. But I've been a fan since 1974 Lifemask, ?with possibly the best version of "I Hate The White Man". Got Jugula as soon as it came out. But Beware a particular BBC-owned (filmed) night at Glastonbury, a few years back. He clearly had Flu or something and wasn't exactly on top form. Wasn't the best advert for his undoubted talents. 19/9/2011.

Fuck 'em. Everybody has bad days. That bit recorded of him at 'Henge in 84 easily makes up for that. Glastonbury doesn't deserve anyone's best since it became a nest of profiteering media slags, overexposed media whores, and Somalian knife gangs. Worthy Farm now has the largest concentration of decaying human shit in human history, slopping around the water table. And every year, hundreds of tons more is added. It takes around six years for human shit to stop being full of toxic pathogens like Typhus, Cholera, Dysentery, Botulism, tapeworms, lungworms, toxicariases, Weil's disease . . . . Michael Eavis can't even graze his cows down there much anymore, there's enough shit bogged down there, just under the surface to make the grass grow brown. And every year the paperboy brings more.

Much as I love this album I can't help but think that 1980s Harper would be 10x better without the chorus pedal and whatever hideous effect he has had applied to his voice
@matthewcoombs3282
2 ай бұрын
Every band over used the Chorus pedal in the 80s. Good to beef up the bass but I hate it on guitars and vocals. Harper like Ovation electro acoustic guitars during this period, which I never cared for much.
