The Honorable Percy Sutton was a prominent leader not only in New York where he spent most of his life, but across the country. He had an illustrious career as a New York politician (dubbed as one of Harlem's "Gang of Four") and a civil rights activist having served as Manhattan Borough President, New York State Assemblyman, a Freedom Rider, and as a lawyer for Malcom X.
Sutton co-founded Inner City Broadcasting Corporation, the first radio station owned by an African-American in New York which is home to WLIB. Two of Sutton's notable credits are saving the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem and sponsoring the SEEK program which gives scholarships to deserving students, allowing them to attend college.
In this conversation, I talk to Percy Sutton's son, Pierre Sutton, who has taken over the reign's of the family business as the Chairman of Inner City Broadcasting.
