I prefer it fast, honestly. Gives it a lighter feel, especially since these musicians are skilled enough to play it that way.

I don't want to turn this into an 'us vs them' argument but I'm in the AAFC (Australian air force cadets) and I'm pretty sure that 99% of our drill is based of the British drill. But I do agree, it is way too fast - perhaps they were providing the band for a parade with one of the rifles regiments (Gurkhas etc., who march at 140)

Jesus that's fast! The first few times I listened to it, I managed to march to it but it did feel unnatural. So, I looked at AP818 (yes I have the full pdf saved) and it should be at around 116 bpm

I think the tempo of a march depends upon a number of factors including if it is being played at a sit down concert rather than a parade, which regiment, and the composer's choice of tempo. For example the Guards and Household Cavalry tend to march at a more stately 116. The statement that HM Forces march at 120 is correct theoretically, but does not recognise the reality on the ground.

It's one of the most beautiful marches ever. The sound quality is nice and bright; the tempo is too fast. What is this - a speed trial? By the last fanfare, even the band sounds breathless.

Apparently when it was originally written (by a civilian given military rank) it WAS supposed to be played at this tempo. t didn't take too long for them to realise it was a bit difficult to march to.....

Hi Erica, There is a tune associated with the Red Arrows called, simply, The Red Arrows. It is more of a saunter than a march, but hey-ho. If you google/Spotify etc "Listen to the Western Band of the RAF' album it is the opening track. It is not an official march (I don't think that they do a lot of marching!) but is played at displays and other events.
