Nice find Pete. #2 diesel bike I've seen now. The first was the limited run of diesel KLR650s that were made for the US Marines in an attempt to reduce the different types of fuel they needed to lug around.

The frame and running gear are identical to my pre-unit 350 Bullet. I have seen them with diesel conversions, usually from old cement mixers, but never seen the Robin engine in one. It does'nt look out of place.and it vibrates a lot less than my Enfield engine. I want one!.

There is a Sommer diesel motorcycle in Canberra. It was imported from Germany as a personal import. It is road registered and uses a 462 cc diesel engine. It uses a Royal Enfield frame, gearbox and running gear.

That was amazing Pete. You wouldn't need an after market exhaust, just wouldn't hear it. It would be an interesting ride, a true bone rattling experience. I wonder how far you'd get per tank. I enjoyed your video, showing me something I never knew about. 👍😁

I once saw an early 1930s Harley with a diesel engine from a water pump of the same vintage, at a classic car and bike show in Germany. It was totally unexpected and had quite a story behind it. Diesel motorcycles are very rare.

US special forces used a Kawasaki KLR650 converted to diesel/ jet fuel... makes sense for all the vehicles to use the same fuel in a military situation.

I remember reading about these, and I thought, why? I had a 500 Indian Bullet at the time, and that did 80 mpg, vibrated a lot and was slow, so why go to the bother of building a diesel version?

And people today whine about the vibration of a single cylinder gas engine motorcycle. I remember the first time I saw a Triumph Bonneville in the late 60's, it was idling at the filling station where my father worked. The front wheel was bouncing up and down, and the owner said it was normal operation for these bikes. Perhaps folks were not so pampered as they are today?
