I think it's such a shame that we don't have younger riders in the UK. I'm 18 and have been riding for over a year now, but haven't met a single biker my age. I think it's possibly the ridiculous licencing laws we have here that puts them off. I hope that bikes like this appeals to young people (though not to me, I much prefer the Interceptor and the Classic) and gets them out riding, as we all know what a thrill it is.

As others have mentioned it looks like a baby street twin (that’s a great thing). I wish they would bump up the power and make it a 500cc. I’ve test ridden the meteor 350 (great bike & ergos) but above 55mph it takes an eternity to get it to its ECU limited max of 72mph. If this was in the 35 hp range it would be perfect and still A2 compliant while not cannibalizing sales of the 47hp interceptor 650

The problem I've found with younger riders not getting into bikes, especially cruisers, is that the majority of Britain's riders are middle-aged, balding graftsmen. That's no bad thing of course, but the younger generation don't look at Paul on his 1987 Virago and think "cool!". Something to also consider is that there isn't much motorcycle media in today's world as there was back in the day. Schwarzenegger absolutely boosted motorcycle sales but you don't tend to find the same emanating from SOA or Mayans, which is surprising. A lot of companies also have tried to appeal to younger crowds in this scene but it often fails. - Royal Enfield trying to blend old school British motoring with new technology, which realistically only appeals to the category listed above (singles are perceived as boring compared to a twin). - Honda tried with the Rebel, though when you call something a rebel it tends to lose its rebellion. That along with the fact it looked like a girder had sandwiched it and only being a 500cc engine (I'm aware they do an 1100cc but it's fairly expensive for younger people). - Yamaha have been fairly successful with the Bolt but a lot of cruiser riding is about style. Most everyone knows that the Bolt is a cheap copy of the Iron 883. Stick a Stage 2 on the 883 and you'll have more power than the Bolt too. Problem solved. - Indian, constantly bringing out iterations of the Scout but everyone can see it's just the same model with slightly higher or lower handlebars and with/without a small fairing. It's also styled poorly, looking very plastic and retro, which doesn't appeal to the newer generations. - Harley, why...oh...why did you lose the Sportster line in Europe?! These are by far the most appealing small bikes on the market. The customisation in aesthetics, power delivery, comfort, ergonomics are unmatchable. Harley tried to mend the wound by bringing out the Sportster S, which is more expensive than a more appealing Softail Standard & Street Bob (or at least, was). Then they tried to revamp the Nightster, which works until you get into the nitty gritty details, such as that hideous, gardening tray radiator on the front and the fact that the Revolution engine just doesn't sound like a Harley. It revs too high and sounds more like a Honda cruiser. Harley's other options for youthful bikes are just far too expensive. Manufacturers just need a bike in the price range of the Honda Rebel 500 but with a 750cc (minimum) and a few stylistic options, such as chromed out, murdered out or, for an extra price, actual decent colours. No more of these nonsense racing and AMF colours on your bikes, PLEASE HARLEY.

Where was all this stuff when I started riding? Back then you passed your test on a 125 then either jumped on a 600 or a grey-import Japanese 400 fire breather. Good in-between bikes where few and far between. That is exactly the bike I could've used as a kid. Although in hindsight I'd have still bought the fastest thing I could afford because I was dumb and speed cameras weren't a thing. On the subject of young people riding bikes, I retrained at college a few years back and the young lads in class thought I was mad for riding a bike. At the time I had a BMW F800S, no exactly a fast bike. There seems to be an extreme amount of risk aversion in the current generation. I know I know, old man shouts at cloud.

It makes me think of a lighter, more agile interceptor. Some larger manufacturers will use one model name with various displacement variants. Given that everyone at Royal Enfield dips into the same parts bin, it should keep costs reasonable. The name of the game at Royal Enfield is Honesty. When the whole industry is building bikes in a horsepower/displacement war, RE asks the questions: Where do you ride? How do you ride? What do you need to get the job done? If people were more honest with themselves, the answer to the questions would point to RE. This bike looks like it bring solid, reliable fun at a reasonable price. Probably to small for me. I think I am more curious about the Classic/Meteor end of the spectrum, those do what I need. Though I have yet to try them. I have tried much larger bikes, but find myself shifting those big motors below 3,000 RPM. So what do I need 90+ HP for? So they can install modes to keep me out of the weeds?

Hi from NZ. I really like the look of it. I'm 51 going on 18. I like the sound of the new REs but can't quite bring myself to buy a meteor as it's a bit too cruiser like and I feel like I'm not old enough for the classic so I'm quite excited about the Hunter, I hope we get it over here. For me the question is more of a choice between the interceptor and this. I would like to test ride both back to back but expect I would go for the 650 due to more power, centre stand, pillion capability etc. Him and Scram are interesting and would certainly suit the rough gravel roads I live on, I love the Scram look but think I would prefer the 350 powered machines for reliability and refinement, perhaps re will make a Himalayan type bike powered with the J engine in time? I keep hoping RE might bring out a 500 single like the old days to run alongside the 350 but i guess they have the 411 shortly to become a 450. Now if they put that engine in the Hunter I think they'd have another sure fire winner, they shouldn't worry about losing Scram sales as they've proven with the Meteor/Classic 350 they appeal to different tastes.

It certainly doesn't "look" like a RE and that's not meant as a criticism so it should open up a new market for them👍If the existing model range is anything to go by the pricing and reliability should also excellent.

RE seems to be hitting it out of the park with the 350-400cc class bikes, Classic, Meteor, this new Hunter, Himalayan, Scram - lots of fun choices for sure. I think the Hunter looks great, and I would take it over the Scram & Meteor, but it would lose to the Classic 350 in my books, that would be my first choice! (Military marsh grey/green or Halcyon Green). I am your age, by the way, with similar coloured beard, lol. Thanks for the video & I look forward to your review of the Hunter when you get your hands on it! We are just getting the Classic 350 now delivered in Canada (August), but low numbers and my dealer says his 4 are sold in advance. Don't know any dates for the Hunter 350 here yet. Cheers, Ronny

Having owned all sorts of bikes for the past 22 odd years from a Hayabusa to Yam Dragstar 1100 and now 650 bandit . Am contemplating on having a go on the Hunter when its available here in UK. Am 52 and commitments have changed so thinking of going for a small engine, a bike that is easy to maintain, cheap and for a good weather ride out plus just taking it easy in town and country lanes. Finding the 650 bandit abit heavy to push around in the garage. Been looking around for small engine bikes lately but not yet decided. Would go for the grey one.

I think this bike is aimed at the foreign market and new RE customers who aren't buying on heritage but on merit. With the substitution of steel for plastic the bike is 14kg lighter than the other variants and foreign buyers are now accustomed to this practice, they are more likely to buy on spec sheets. People tend to look at HP figures and ignore torque, which is generally more important. You won't find another 4 stroke under 350 that makes as much torque under 4000rpm.

Here in the states the youth would only buy that bike and keep it less than a few months before growing old of the major lack of power and upgrading then to something else. That bike is perfect for India or major cities in Europe....or a license course class. I believe this is a major indicator of the upcoming Street Twinish model that RE is making with their 650 calling it the Shotgun or SG. If it resembles these looks then goodnight Triumph! Patiently waiting for RE to release all models now with the 650....Cruiser, Shotgun, and what everyone wants a Himalayan 650.

@@mattdog1982 It's clearly a generational thing… When I started out, everyone got a bike licence as a teenager, before getting a car licence. Only those with parental anti-bike pressure and a bit of money went straight onto four wheels. Nowadays, people go to bikes as a leisure thing, often much later in life, and certainly after obtaining a car licence. I guess it helped that you could ride a bike at 16, whereas for a car (unless it had 3 wheels) you had to wait ’til 17… and as a learner at 16, you could ride up to 250cc (or a bigger bike with a sidecar). Once your test was passed, you could ride any size bike, but most stepped up to 350cc or 500cc at first, before going up to the 'big bikes' of the day… 650, 750 etc..

I’m 28 and my friend 25 and both starting our DAS journey. Have a few friends of similar ages (21-25) that ride so personally, the “not many young people” ride doesn’t sit all that true. Kent based if wanting to know geography. I wonder if location plays a part in the age vs riding conversation. Would be interesting to see a location vs age vs number of licenses issued metric. Another element that I can think of is the sheer marketing of cars over bikes. From a lesson point of view, a commercial view and also in media. If I said how many of us car people were inspired by films and top gear …. Many would say yes. Is there such a draw to a biking world from the same media? I’d say no. (Dedicated adverts, bike shows/programmes etc). I just don’t remember anything over the last say 10 years screaming out at me saying “become a biker, here’s the benefits, here’s the cool stuff you can do”. It’s all been solely self found and self researched. But that’s my 10 pence. I’m 6ft4.75 and really find it a struggle thinking what bike I’d fit on. It’ll make it harder but isn’t holding me back from the biking journey. Am a big built lad too so low powered bikes (500cc and under) may not give me the same pull as someone much lighter. Love the meteor, and even more so the concept of the 650 one that has been rumoured. But, even with the potential increased power, my height may well be a blocker. Looking at a Vulcan S as an alternative. But keen to hear anything you’d recommend for a tall chap
