I think I have to agree that the Enfield is the better choice. With an 865 you would expect a very noticeable improvement in performance. However it is hard to notice the difference. Also, maintenance is easier on the Enfield and if you're buying new, it cost about $4000 less. Better fuel economy is an additional bonus.

thank you for reviewing these two specifically as they would be the same price used in my country. Only difference being that Enfield has the 270 degree crank and Triumph doesn't and the fact that almost all the triumphs despite being 15+ years old look basically new and the Enfields after only few years lose the shine from casings etc. Indeed a difficult choice and a first world problem ;)

I found a 10 year old Bonneville 865cc with 1800 miles on it. Beautiful cranberry red I think they call it and I love riding it. There are many of these sitting in garages not being used. I paid $4200 which with the low miles and everything working and never laid down I felt was a great deal. I didn't want to pay for a new one nor did I want the liquid cooled version.

In Virginia, I own a 2020 650 Interceptor with 34,000 miles and also Two 2012 Triumphs which are 865cc. The Triumphs are 67/68 horsepower (Bonneville SE/Thruxton) and weigh 500 pounds. The 650 felt anemic so at 28,000 miles I installed 83.5mm Weisco pistons and an S&S cam. This gives the RE 743cc and compression is 11 to 1 ... it not only is quicker now but it has the throttle authority of a 900cc bike. I paid $7,400 apiece for the Triumphs eleven years ago and that is what my "750INT" cost: new in May 2020 $5,949 out-the-door; then $1,400 for TEC full stainless-steel exhaust, the big bore kit, S&S cam, machine-shop charge and using my labor (it was enjoyable, I have done this many times in 55+ years). The smaller 83.5mm pistons vs the 90mm (863cc) have less blow-by, easier on the stock clutch and no loss in fuel economy. Hills and headwinds are not an issue like before. My bike weighs 195kg (429 pounds) full of fuel.

I didn’t understand your pricing comparison. A 2007 Triumph Bonneville value now or new vs a new or 2020 Enfield? If you are comparing value and performance of the two bikes it should be against each other. My stock 2009 Triumph 865 ran 125.1 mph at Bonneville and a low 13 second quarter mile, I'm pretty sure that is both faster and quicker than the Royal Enfield. I've owned a Royal Enfield 500 classic for six years and have seen Royal Enfield build quality improve greatly but it is still years behind Triumph's in my opinion. I would choose a six or seven year old Bonneville over a new Royal Enfield Interceptor regardless of pricing.

I recently took a 3000 mile trip on my RE 650. It performed flawlessly. Spent many hours in the rain with no issues. My price comparison was new verses new. I paid $4500 for my Enfield 3 yours old, for about the same amount I could have bought a Bonneville 15 years old. I'm really enjoying the Enfield.

I recently saw 5 year old T100 at dealer near me, low mileage nice shape. Asking $10K. So, again, you could buy 2, 3 year old Enfields. But, I agree, if you want to do 125 mph and do 1/4 mile drag races; the Enfield is not for you. If you just want to have fun riding a bike on public roads at normal speeds without breaking the bank, that's what the Enfield is all about.

If you are buying a new one, you need to consider your budget. The Triumph will cost nearly 50% more, but it's probably only 10% better. If you are shopping for second hand, look for a good deal on either one. The actual ride experience is very similar

I also have a 1983 Honda Goldwing. The shaft drive is awesome, nearly maintenance free. However, modern chains with x ring seals, don't require as much maintenance as they used to. Also, you could do no maintenance and just plan on replacing it sooner. They Aren't that expensive.

That Triumph Bonneville is probably the 53hp model they had 66hp models too which would have more performance.Also the Royal Enfield's use cheap soft steel bolts & cheap electronics & suspension.Considering a YSS suspension upgrade front & rear will cost you between $650-$1000us & then replace Relays upgrade seat,slip on's, you're looking at about $1500us in upgrades & the Triumph doesn't need many or any so looking at about $2500us more & Triumph fit & finish is high quality & 17" rear wheel & if get a SE model 17" front & rear improving handling.Triumph is better jump on & ride as RE Interceptor could use mods to improve but still be cheaper than Bonnie but newer Models from 2016 are 64hp & older Bonnie models can be from 53hp-66hp so pays to do homework.Pitty RE uses soft steel bolts on everything.
@BobKramer51

My RE has 13,000 miles on it now, I have not had any problems with the fasteners. Many of the bolts are Stainless Steel. I have changed to a K&N air filter, AEW mufflers and Added a FuelX controller. All this really boosted the performance. But, of course you get what you pay for. A new Bonne costs about $4000 more than a new Interceptor.

@@BobKramer51 You can get engine casing bolt upgrade kit from Hitchcock's which are better quality. Only a problem if you're removing them & most people won't but be great time to upgrade them if you do like putting a new chain or cog on.Also the rear wheel nut is soft steel & if don't have quality torque wrench or use one provided in toolkit will start to round bolt & upgrading to a better bolt like a Titanium or quality Stainless rear wheel bolt or at least get a quality 6 sided 24mm socket soft steel on soft steel don't mix well.

@@BobKramer51 mentioned above that I own two 11-year old Triumphs. I also own a 2020 Speed Twin 1200cc ... the fuel injection is worse, probably due to throttle-by-wire. It is as jerky to ride as an old Yamaha RD350 etc, I am selling it

My 09 Triumph was jerky at low speeds. Maneuvering in a parking lot was tricky and sometimes dangerous. I have had no issues with the EFI on the Enfield. All other bikes I have owned have been carbureted, I can dial in a carb and make it run perfect, not so easy with EFI.
