I agree with lee1990. The US Marines are the best branch of the military that the US has to offer (which is why I plan to join) but quite frankly the Royal Marines train way harder. Their basic training is 32 weeks long compared to the 13 weeks the US Marines have to do. The Royal Marines are commandos. You may be able to compare the RM to US Marines force recon but in the end it really shouldnt matter because our countries are allies so it should never really matter who is better.

@everyone saying its easy... yeah its to weed out the ones who have a poor swimming standard, because theres no point in them going any further into training if they cant even swim! Every basic test for any force isn't going to be rock solid as they're just starting!!

Just so you know Special Force, Navy Seal and SAS are basically the same level just different training tactics. Delta Force force is some1 who can be any1 under any name ANY TIME with all Military training tactics. D-Force recruits from Green berets and ((ALL)) those 3 branches i just mentioned. its not just Americans in the Delta Force, its the top soldiers from any branch who agree to join when given the opportunity. =]

Its a basic test, breaststroke is the most controlled and one that exerts less energy and is alot quiter but technically more difficult. This is kind of a basic medical you would have but with seeing if people can swim or not.

But I admire many European fighting forces. Even though our methods of training may vary and military traditions. I admire the Germans and Russians too. Along with the French and the Italians. In modern war their militaries are pretty on top of things. All militaries have their grown pains and less than finest hours.

@locsaretheshit It's normal pool depth, Obviously as a Royal Marine you will come in contact with water and they will expect you to be a strong swimmer with confidence when you pass out of basic training. That said - learn to swim before you join, you've got time. best of luck.

At the rifle range during Rifle Week. If you do not qualify in that week. You go back two weeks. Lack of food, running 8 miles every other day on top of out other physical training. Being sick constantly. Takes a toll. Hungry constantly. If you don't pass swime week you go back two weeks. You can get sent to the motivational platoon to. Indefinatly. They can do anyhting they want to you. I was beaten a few times. That was in 2001! But I never said anything because it is the toughest boot camp.

I chose it because I knew it was tough and would suck. Now as far as winning battles go. I fully agree the American military Orthodoxy needs an overhaul. Being isolated from most of the world has not helped America understand the foreign military mind. Thus American officers proclaimed several abject defeats were victories in Vietnam. I see the same mentality in Iraq. The Vietnamese instigated 88% of the confrontations in that war. Attacking bases, convoys and aircraft on their terms.

Force Recon and the training is considerd more elite than royal marines since it takes between indoc and the different qual schools almost a year just so you can wear the scuba bubble and gold wings. I even spoke to a Royal Marine Officer and told me that it would be great for the royal marines to be able to have the high standards and training of recon marines. and the same when i went to go out to train i got a chance to train with a couple of other countries.

After boot P.I. or S.D. we're sent home 10 days. Then it's off to Marine Combat Training ot Infantry Combat training. Both vary on the number of weeks. But all Marines must go. Then it's off to Military Occupational Specialty School. Again it's several weeks depending on your M.O.S. Now our Force Recon is really the American version of British Royal Marines. For R.M. are more like Commandos than the Average U.S. Marine is. lso there is a lot of stress in Marine Boot camp.

Alright guys and gals. USMC training and Royal Marine Training are different. No big deal is it? We in the USMC had 13 weeks of non-stop HELL! No talking to each other ever. Hardly fed to. When we were. It was not uncommon for the D.I.s to order us out of the chow hall right as we sat down on a whim. So when we got to swim week. We're weak tired and hardly in shape to swim. But we do. No choice. Now. Keep in mind. Basic training is just the basics. It's not the D.I.s job to teach anything else

The US Army and the US Marines aren't terrible soilders, and defintely not the one of the worst in the world. However people's common misconception about America's armed forces "being the best" or even "one of the best" is inaccurate, people assume this just because America are strong economically. They are large in number and in finances and resources, but in skill, America is nothing beyond "mediocre". This is a fact well known to british and other soilders, and rarely to civvies.

Most Green Berets are Marines and NO Navy Seals & Berets come second to DELTA FORCE. You probably only heard of them by video games and movies. You never hear about them at all, & thats how they want it. My uncle whose been in army for 13 years has worked with few DELTA FORCE members and he told me, once ur a member u loose ur identity. You can be anyone under any name. Their life is pretty much like the movie called,-THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM- just without the lost memory part. LOL

those numbers are way off...its more like 7000-8000 RMC and 200,000+ USMC...basic US Marines can't be compared to RMC, however, in my opinion, Force Recon Marines can because they are considered an elite, as are the RMC.

Now I see our military falling into the same quagmire that Vietnam was. We built HUGE bases in Vietnam. But did this help us win? Nope. I had a fellow Marine say in the early parts of the war that he didn't see how we could not be considered winning since we controlled 80% of that country. That shows a total lack of understanding of modern war. Most American officers would be in agreement with him. They seem to think holding territory means victory. Insurgents need no territory to hold.

Royal Marines? US Marines? People here are arguing about the dumbest things. We should be worried about fighting terrorism and not about who is better than the next one. Lee1990hull, your argument is as smart as us US Marines debating who is better, West or East Coast Marines. I think we are here for the same purpose and this arguments sound worse than arguing about what football team is better than the other one. "MINE IS BETTER" "NO, MINE IS BETTER".
