I was there throughout The Royal Tournament in 1994, recruiting for the Army...watched every Field Gun Competition over the two weeks. Amazing strength, fitness and coordination by these guys...awesome to watch, they have my utmost respect!

It is CRIMINAL that this ended. This is the only recruitment video you'd ever need to get people to joining the Navy. Teamwork, camaraderie, respect. The backbone of a life in the forces.

Long live field gun - my dad ran in 1983 for Devonport when they broke the record. What a sad day for us all the day it stopped !

I love this race and went many times to see the Gun Carriage race in the 70's 80's as a child, i am really surprised that they decided to scrap this event as what a fantastic tribute it was to the British Armed Forces.

First time this was brought to mind was a documentary by Ian Wooldridge "The Wooldridge View" if I am right. Ever since then I would go to Earls Court to watch those guys perform in that spectacular race. Watching it now here brings back great memories of good times. Fantastic stuff. Great post, thank you

How is this different from any other team sport? Everyone performs a specific role to achieve a team victory. Go outside and watch a competition sometime gooddamn.

So the Govt talks about increasing respect for the armed forces, after scraping the Royal Tournament. I remember watching this enthralled as a child- even though i was a girl. It should be revived
