Great presentation. I just wanted to point out that ARM or Arm is pronounced like the arm on the human body and the Pi in Raspberry Pi is like Apple Pie.

Great video. Probably the most informative one out so far. Do you think this chip was one of the reasons ARM wanted to buy them? To prevent them from continuing down the Risc-V path? This must been in the work from a lot of time.

Thank you so much for the praise. IMHO, the effort to 'me also' a RISCV design is not as high as one might think at first...

You also need an expensive inductor for the internal regulator.

@@MrTamhanagreed lol. I do have a question though about why you dislike pi foundation and upton? I am not trying to be critical of you, but it seems like you dislike them, so there must be a reason why. I do have to say I am not a big fan of becoming more reliant on Chinese tech for applications, where there is a risk of a motivated state actor (ccp) from doing some shenanigans, which is the only reason I somewhat support raspberry pi in my mind, but if they are bad, I would like to be informed:)

I bought a Pimoroni RP2350B version ('Pico 2 Plus') - arriving the day after launch. First time I heard about 'Infineon' - but I managed to add a cheap 'Super Mini' ESP32C3 with ESP-AT for £1.50 which gives me a wireless connection via one of the Pico 2's UART. I think Adafruit have an ESP-AT SPI version.

Hi, thank you for talking back - I hope for DHL to clear my SeeedStudio PCB very soon. In the mean time - that is quite a neat combination. However, on the Pi Pico W, they did use an Infineon module instead...

Weird way to support RISC-V Uptonites! Having it in the same chip as ARM cores, presumably means they have to pay the ARM licence even if the user has no intention of using the ARM cores. Also it means the chip area is unnecessarily large whichever core type you choose. Since chip cost is pretty much proportional to area, this will push cost up for both core types!
@MrTamhan

Hello, thank you for talking back! The thing here is that, according to rumors, if the pressure is large enough, the licence fee becomes infertesimally small. And you must always remember that Upton actually is a BroadCom man, not an RPi man. So there might always be a side benefit.

@@MrTamhan Eben Upton is DEFINITELY a Raspberry Pi Man given he founded the company and remains in charge after the IPO. Nothing to do with Brcm. Also, the RISC cores on the RP2350 are tiny, and take up very little die area.

@@MrTamhan He left Broadcom years ago IIRC and has been working full-time at RPi since. The company uses Brcm SoCs so clearly there is a working relationship, just like any company and chip vendor.

Quality in pi 5 was terrible. Flimsy nvme ribbon is a joke, minuscule micro hdmi plugs. First pi 5 died in a fortnight, I got a refund but was still out of pocket with the shipping.

@@MrTamhan I wouldn't say they left me high and dry, although they made me re-test it with about 6 different power supplies, then made me post it back for them to confirm. Before they sent me a replacement. I did ask for a replacement thermal pad for the fan and they said 'sorry, no'. Maybe if I argued a refund with the $12AUD postage they would have refunded it, but I'd already wasted so much time and I don't think they're a big company so I didn't. It was more the week's emailing back and forth which was the main irritation. I was more irritated with the Pi Foundation for the failure, because if it failed a year later I would have been out of pocket with no replacement. When I buy something I expect it to last. Anyway to answer your question it was Core Electronics.
