I'm afraid a slight mistake slipped through, the first bass sound at 4:50 is actually Bank 0 Program 23 Kubota Bass

I have one of these, since new. Great little box. The music store I worked in had a pile of them for cheap for ages, I eventually picked one up. Never used it much when new. It was a bit before it's time, not many were interested in vintage synth sounds in 1995. OK, so midi CC 16, 17 and 18 adjust the SHAPE TONE and SPECIAL parameters for easy adjustment per sound. However NRPN messages can control three LFO parameters, filter cutoff and resonance and also ADR. So a bit more can be done after making some sliders in Logic's environment, or however else you want to do that. I seem to recall there were software editors for it originally, but haven't looked that up.

great job showing this synth. For the size and the price, certainly a fun oddity

Thanks for this video review👍. I saw one for sale recently and bought it after hearing it here. It doesn't sound cheesy to me, but I like old school synth pop so...😉. Cheers !!

Now, why not try to create a full song with only the sg01v, like I did here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/04GiuZmihquEZm0

Interesting. It is basically a preset module. Editing seems pretty non existent and the FX are limited. Plus side is the sounds are quite good.

It's fully editable via Software with name SG01edit. But I thing that you will need Windows 95/98

I absolutely adore the synthesiser to the day. But does a bit heavy on the basses. Still use it with new gear. A bit odd you have to put it on zero to access the drums but thank you for telling me. Honestly don't know why there isn't any more love for the Akai Tomcat, I mean played with another drum machine or whatever it's a beast. And not many were made apparently because they failed. Me thins good investment.

How do you turn off the reverb on all presets? I've had a look at the manual with some references to midi settings but it's like foreign language to me.

Just get the manual online, it's explained on page 15-17 😉

I don't think it keeps the setting, but press and hold down 'select prog' then press the level button (notice it says fx level underneath). Select prog LED should flash and the level one goes solid. It's on 3 by default but I set it to zero because I don't like the built-in reverb, it sounds cheap and very upfront. Turn it off and stick it through Supermassive instead, and you can get some lush pads! P.S. Bought mine new in about 1996 and hadn't touched it for 20 years until I tidied up the loft at Christmas, and rediscovered it. I was quite pleased that not only it still works, but it's also worth 150 quid 😂

Hey Rejected Synths 😅 I just got the sg01K, how do you get these akai modules to communicate to midi synths? I turned the multi off and on and switched through different transmit midi Channels on the midi controller and I just don’t hear anything
@rejectedsynths
3 жыл бұрын
You also have to set up the correct midi channel in the sg01, either that or you'll have to switch through all 16 Midi channels in your controller to find the right one 😜 The manual should be available on the web, by the way to help you out on setting up the midi channel

@@rejectedsynths the manual for the Sg01V is up online but not the K. Did you use the aux out or the stereo RCA line out? I used both, tried midi 1-16 on the akai and 1-16 on my midi controller and all the variations..... I think I am missing a very important step??? 🎛🦫
@rejectedsynths

Oh sorry just saw you're talking about the k-variant. Just to be sure: did you turn up the volume and did you connect midi out of your kb to midi in on sg using a working cable? Sometimes it's the most obvious things...also the sg01v manual should do, as the only difference seems to be the sounds in the banks

@@rejectedsynths so I bought it on eBay from a used store, and all It said said was it had a new battery. What are the chances the midi in and out are malfunctioning on my SG01K? Thank you so much for responding and helping! I have thought of factory resetting the sg01k but I don’t think u can do that on the front face I am definitely going midi in on the module and out on the midi controller. The volume is up and the module is midi1 and the controller is midi 1. Again thanks for the helping I am new to modules! I also used a midi jack they gave me, and also one I have, and both work with my mt32!

@@buibuibuiestudio5561 I'm certainly no expert but I'd say it's highly unlikely (only) the midi part of your unit is broken. Here is one thing you can try to be sure it makes any sound at all: On page 7 of the sg01v manual, you can find the procedere to play the demo tunes, I'm pretty sure, the sg01k can do this too. If it has demo tunes and you here nothing, the unit might be faulty
