I learned playing catch up is losing. I knew about the power of compounding gains but I went "Nah man I'm gonna sell AMD for Micron Calls" in 2018. AMD would have made several hundred thousand over a few years, the MU calls I was confident in 10x ing in a few months expired worthless. I ended up with less money to invest on the Covid dip. I'd be a millionaire if I just chilled on investing my spare income from 2017 instead of hoarding it on YOLO plays

In 2015 I was on my friends coach in Texas discussing amd during the bankruptcy talk at like 3$ a share and it seemed impossible the only competitive company would fold and a Monopoly would exist. Was homeless (why I was there) he invested some made well. Years later I bought micron. Held for a few years and sold it for what I bought it for even tho it was a undervalued stock and obviously was worth more. But it wasn't moving. And everything else was. I should have held it. Every decision I make is bad ......

I think the best thing about Rudy's financial videos - beyond the nostalgic pink financial visor cap - is his candor. Trying to keep financial advise simple and down to earth - that can be challenging and yet - he does it with gusto. Downside risk is a huge part of investing - one has to be willing to eat losses with a smile - but there's choices too. Do you double down and cost-average? Do nothing? Sell into a storm? (Never do this) Investing must be done stoically and never emotionally. It's a rollercoaster that if one is overleveraged, you won't be simply feeling nauseous on the way down - you will likely lose your lunch too; know your limits, stick within it.

I learned about Legos after a friend's parent's house caught fire. All his old sets burned up and he got a bunch of money for it all. Said he was putting it all back into Star Wars sets. This is like 15 years ago now. Sure enough, that stuff just rises 15-20% a year. I've always wanted to start doing that myself but I'm one of those poors that needs the x10 to get anywhere. Managed a x5 on CLOV call options in June and now only up about x2 after this latest hit. Thankfully shares and not options so unrealized.

Rudy I really enjoy these takes you make. One thing on investing while not having assets is that you will lose the assets you invest for the time of investing. That should not be mind blowing and people don't think about it because of course it goes that way. BUT what it actually mean is that if you have plenty of money, lets say millions, you can invest a million and it doesn't show in any way in your day-to-day life. If you have 1000 dollars extra and invest it, it's more likely something that could increase your life satisfaction for the duration of the investment. That is then another reason wanting to invest the 1000 dollars in high risk-high reward, because the 70 dollar extra isn't giving you anything you couldn't have got with 1000 and for the duration of the investment you are "missing" 1000 dollars. When you don't have money, the little money you have is more valuable (personally).

If you lose $1100, you are not only down $1100, but you are down the 26% you have to pay in finance charges charged by the card as well, because now you are holding that product for months and months waiting for the loss to bounce back to a positive. Your $11,000 borrowed purchase, can become $12k, $13k, $14k over time and in actuality, you'll end up LOSING way more than you invested. ALWAYS invest with equity. Borrow only what you know you can flip immediately and pay back to avoid finance charges.

I liquidated my MTG collection, duals, power, etc. in the late 90s and early 00s. Then I saved saved saved and spent almost nothing but what I needed to live, while working hard. I worked a lot. Over the next three or four years I built up my nest egg playing the market with a tiered risk strategy, bought a house, and now I am in a great position for the long run. Granted, I did ride the wave post housing crisis. Do I wish I had my old cards... of course! But the assets I have now are worth more to me than cardboard. Now I play casual magic with friends and pick up an old card now and then for nostalgia. It takes work, research, and calculated decisions to get there. Great talk
