The reason for special case #1 is you cannott directly swap C/I/W/S with the buffer location while also preserving the M slice. Instead, the algorithm for each of these swaps does something different. For example for C, you want the buffer sticker to go to C, but after the swap, M2 puts C at the W location instead. Therefore the swapping algorithm just sends the buffer sticker directly to W. Whatever used to be at C is now at the buffer location, ready for the next swap. So it's not your usual setup + swap + unsetup, but it still accomplishes the same thing. The reason for special case #2 is that after every odd number of swaps, the cube is in a different state (off by M2) so the UF and DB edges are now in swapped positions. When you need to swap with C/I/W/S, it is in the opposite position (off by M2) if you have already done an odd number of swaps. In other words, if it comes 2nd in the pair, you need to swap to the opposite location instead to find the correct edge.

**Been running into issues for months as I solve corners then edges. (If i do corners, parity, then edges it leaves 4 pieces mixed up) Finally found my answer after much googling. If you want to do it with corners first you can leave out your last corner memo. You would solve all corners except that last one, do all edges, perform the parity alg (D' L2 D M2 D' L2 D) and then execute the last corner, and it would turn out solved. NOW i'm able to solve it (corners then edges)

D M' U R2 U' M U R2 U' D' M2 1. y' U' M U' R2 U M' U' R2 U2 y 2. x F E R U R' E' R U' R' F' x' Possible execution for alg 0 (standard): D r R' U R2 U' r' R U R2' U' D' r (R' M') For alg 1, possibly M' = r R' and U2 y = d' U'. For alg 2, I can't do the E, lol. I don't think algs 1, 2 are worth to do because of the rotations. Algs for S 0. M2' D U R2 U' M' U R2 U' M D' 1. M2' D R' U R' U' M' U R U' M R D' 2. D2 F2 U M' U' F2 D2 U' M' U 3. U2 F2 U M' U' F2 U M U 4. Algs for Q that don't involve B moves 1. F' D R' F D' M2 D F' R D' F 2. U R' U' l U' R U M2 U' R' U l' U R U' 3. (U' M')*3 (U' M) (U' M')*4 Tips for execution for alg 1: Execute the M2 at the bottom position, i.e. push the UB piece with right ring finger (and right middle finger if possible). Execute the last F' using right index finger (push RUF to UFL). Execute the last F using left thumb. I can't figure out the finger tricks for alg 2. For alg 3, the finger tricks are easy but it has 5 more moves than alg 1. Algs for EFGH and MNOP: By utilizing the wide u and u' moves, it is possible to avoid B moves. For example, N can be executed as: u R u' M2 u R' u' However, this may not always be the best option, especially when the sequence contains consecutive L/R face stickers. Try executing the sequence EFGHMNOP. Using wide u moves makes it harder to cancel moves, while using B moves makes it extremely easy. In these cases, cancelling moves is definitely worth 2 regrips.

You have to "break into a new cycle". I explained it in a post on SS like two hours ago. This is jsut a copy paste job from that post. "You need to break into a new cycle when your buffer piece is solved (unless it's the last piece of course). Shoot to any unsolved piece, and continue as normal. When you get back to the piece you shot to, you'll solve the buffer piece again. You then either have to shoot to another solved piece, or you'll be done."

I completely understand the method now and can do edge only scrambles, but the only thing stopping me from doing blind M2 is memorization. Particularly when I have to break in to a new cycle, there are so many edges that I can't keep track of which ones I've "solved" already. So I don't know what to swap buffer with. Corners were easy because I could put my fingers on each "solved" piece. Also easier/faster set up move for H is (u L' u') and N is (u R u'). Thanks for all the quality vids!

One question: If C/W comes second in a pair, do you memorize the already fixed solution or do you think of it while solving?
@jamesquinn728

generally fix during ex but either could work tbh, just stay constant
@ArneWidding

I fix it in memo, so that I can focus on execution without "thinking". To me it goes in the preperation phase.

Why not doing a 3 style tutorial? You like fewest move challenges so it would be great to all of us.

which parity is better 1. M2 U' M U2 M U' M' U2 M' U2 2. D' L2 D M2 D' L2 D I feel like 1 would be better because D and L moves are not always fast even though its fewer moves

SETUPS MOVES WITHOUT ROTATION ( For side targets ) I found a setup move for ( E/F/G/H ) and ( M/N/O/P ) that doesn't require ROTATING the entire cube in any way. E : L' ( Uw' L' Uw ) F : L2 ( Uw' L' Uw ) G : L ( Uw' L' Uw ) H : ( Uw' L' Uw ) M : R ( Uw R Uw' ) N : ( Uw R Uw' ) O : R' ( Uw R Uw' ) P : R2 ( Uw R Uw' ) Explanation: the setup moves derive from the original setup moves for H and N. What we do is put for example we put M/O/P into the N slot using one move either ( R, R' or R2 ) and then execute the setup move for N. Same idea for the left side. Once you understand the moves and exactly whats going on, this can be executed extremely fast with absolutely no rotation. Cheers.

Question: If I need to shoot to W but it's second in the letter pair, is it better to memorize C, or just to memorize W and remember that it's second and I need to do the inverse?
@JPerm

I personally just remember the normal letter and reverse it during execution

so for the special cases where the second letter in a pair needs to be changed to it's opposite, do you suggest learning the actual position and then during the solve, remembering that you're actually doing the opposite? or just memo that opposite letter?
@JPerm
7 жыл бұрын
+SeanStephensen I personally memo the normal letter and execute the opposite, but I'm not very fast so that might be the slower way. I think memo the opposite letter is probably better

Put a finger on each piece as you memorize it. Left index finger on D, left thumb on L, pinkie finger on X and middle finger or third finger on R. Same thing on the other side. Then, when you've used up all 4 fingers on both hands, check the 3 middle slice pieces. If neither C/I or Q/A or S/W is flipped in it's place, then you've already finished memo. If any of those 3 middle slice pieces are flipped in their place, add the two letters of that piece to the end of your memo and then you've finished memo.

Any Roux Solvers here? The special cases, aren't these just Roux Cases for the last step? I'm a CFOP-Solver so I'm not knowing it.

Nope. In Roux LSE , we always first orient all the edges of M slice. Then we solve them.

I ever find something weird when I'm trying to find the place for the edges I found 'MI' I'm not changing it yet so I continued till the end When I relize 'I' was in the second pair I change it to 'S' like you said, so it become 'MS' but then when I memorize all the edges I found that the sequence go like this ........MS S........ . So do I need to do 'S' two times or i'm wrong while memorize it? Btw I triple check the edge and it the sequence was like that (Sorry for bad english)
