It breaks me harder with how it was handled in the manga to be completely honest. The way they draw Pauls expression when Rudeus finally looks at him kills me every time. Chapter 35 and 36 are hard to read even if we know it ends on a happy note. Expressions in general are really well done in the manga, I heard the manga takes some detours or tells things differently and isn't exactly faithful to the source material - but I had liked how the manga depicted Geese in the manga too. He temporarily sort of acted as a reminder of a male rolemodel for Rudeus in preparation for the meeting with his dad, it 'adds more meaning' to it too, I feel.

It was way cruder in the manga. Rudy wouldnt look at Pauls face because he couldnt stomach it and was about to say "if this is what having him feels like, i dont need-" and then the innkeeper stepped in, said that and Pauls face was even worse. Then Rudy compared it to his previous life and decided to say that. Paul then when he hugged him looked like life was returning to his face

Paul was so desperate to find his family and always kept imagining them as slaves or dead or desperately surviving somewhere, that he couldn't stomach that his son came back and was acting so cheerfully and carefree, although he never realized the hardships Rudy went through to get back home until Geese explained to him that just because he's a prodigy, it doesn't change that he's still just an 11 year old boy. They were both at fault for not noticing or listening, but i felt for Paul in this scene, especially in the LN because of how he finally found some light after 18 months knowing that at least one of his family members was alive, his son who he hadn't seen in 5 years. i felt teary watching it, but when i read the LN (Vol.5) and we were given Paul's inner monologue and perspective, it just hurt so bad that a part of him had actually given up on hope because after 18 months, he never found any clues about his family including Rudy who he so strongly believed would be fine without his help. A part of him expected Rudy to show up injured and bring the rest of the family back with him. He definitely had too much expectations for Rudy as Geese pointed out, but seeing Rudy acting so carefree and not knowing about the Mana Disaster reaching Buena Village and asking about Sylphy first pissed him off to the point that he looked at Rudy with disdain and took his anger out on him. And then when he saw Norn that night sleeping and dreaming about him, he realized that just because he was a prodigy, what he did to him was beyond cruel because what it that were Norn sent to the Demon Continent and finally made it home and reunited with him after many years. He realized he could never do that to his child but did it to Rudy regardless. Him throwing up that night and seeing himself as a mess in the mirror gave him a perspective on why Rudy didn't tell him about any of the hardships as they were. Him then breaking down when he finally hugged and held Rudy in his arms was what made me wanna cry, because he finally found hope again as he cried his eyes out telling Rudy how he really felt about not being able to find any of them. Rudy is both like a son and a friend to him who he can share his heartfelt emotions with. I'm telling y'all, if you liked the anime, read the LN's, there are only 26 volumes and all of them are available in english on Amazon and Indigo. Volumes 23-26 haven't been released yet but the official release dates are all up. By April the entire main series will be available on Paperback. The manga still has many years to go, i believe they are at the LN's Volume 12 of content.
@BlacX07
Жыл бұрын
The LN has finished right ? I hope the anime adapts everything neatly without missing anything like u said Paul's internal monologue, tho the anime showed us him imagining rudeus returning with injuries. @Phantom-ZER0
Жыл бұрын
@@BlacX07 i honestly never fucked with LN's until my friend convinced me to read Arifureta and then i gave Mushoku Tensei a chance too and I've been hooked since. From what Studio BIND said, they want to adapt the entire series, the 2nd half of S2 will end at volume 12, so if they keep the same pacing as the first 2 seasons and adapt 6 volumes per season, Mushoku Tensetli will have 4 Seasons and probably a Movie as well.

Better to have a terrible father who despite being a screw up still cares deeply about his kid(s) than a good father who doesn't actually care about their kids. The emotional connection is the most important part of a parent/child relationship, as the child knowing that their father will always be there in their corner and loves them no matter what will matter to them far more than a father who just "goes through the motions" but makes no effort to truly "connect" with their child(ren).

One of the most wholesome things about their relationship, which shows just how much Rudy actually sees Paul as his actual dad, is the fact that despite being mentally way older than Paul (almost 50 in here); he doesn't hesitate to throw himself to his arms like a normal little kid would. Their relationship could had been way different considering that Rudy was already almost twice as old as Paul when he died and was reincarnated. He could had been distant and only could had only seen Paul like a friend/brother or simply the dude who raised him, but never once he shy'd away from his affection despite being a whole ass grown man mentally-wise. He geniunely considers Paul his father and loves him like one, no matter if he's older than him.

Honestly, if you think about it, rudy stopped growing up mentally at some point, he was just locked inside his room. @@Brianworldwide_7 I think your right and that's mainly what makes Mushoku Tensei such a good isekai. Is that way more realistic? Because I think that would have been much less realistic had it been in the anime. I understand not looking in directly and barely speaking, but getting the feeling of vomiting after a glimpse of someone you feel uncomfortable with is just weird. I have never come across anyone who vomits for that reason, only poor diet, compulsive vomiting, too much eating and bad food or environment (bathroom, sewage, etc.) that can cause nausea, which just seems to be a stretch in the setting of this scene. That vomiting feeling just seems like overreaction, but the talking less part is fine by me,

@@zacharyjackson1829 don't say that, its the same story only with more detail. I fact the manga does a way better job literally drawing the growth of these characters.

There's a panel in the manga where Rudy metaphorically putting back the shards of their broken memory after Rudy reconciled with Paul or is it just a manga exclusive thing and it wasn't mentioned in the light novel

Light Novel spoilers ahead it really saddens me that this scene and the one where Paul, Lilia, and Rudy stayed together for one night like a real family wasnt the last experience rudy had with his dad. they just had to make Paul say one last hurtful thing "if it means sacrificing yourself for your mother, do it". at least he redeemed himself by dying to save his son and his wife.

"if it means sacrificing yourself for your mother, do it" Still waiting for vol12 to arrive from Amazon, but sounds like he lived and died by that principle himself.

This thing could have been done so much better not even talking about how the scene work when you read the light novel or the manga adaptation there's enough details in the writing or the drawings they can actually see just how much this hits home to both father and son but here in the anime a lot of that was cut off either in terms of how it was being told or in terms of the art style used for them but it wasn't even the character design that made it bad just the fact that there wasn't enough details put into it for this scene or this arc

what i always sad about isekai that yet they indeed adult reincarnate as kid or whatever but still its not wrong to cry , express childish feeling and whatever please isekai anime...stop potraying adult must act tough everytime even when reincaranted as kid i know isekai genre always escape reality by being alpha in alternate world but...still a lil bit uninteresting i might add
