I have always loved Ballet and I have always wished to see Nureyev dance but never had the opportunity, however many years ago I was in London to see the show EVITA at a matinee and was on my way to the station to go home when I saw a queue of people at a stage door I asked a man what was the queue for and he told me that Nureyev was signing autographs. I was so excited and joined the queue. I always carried my autograph book with me and could not believe my luck. I got inside the stage door and HE was sitting on a stool in the stage door keepers office and people were just passing their papers for him to sign but no one spoke to him. I decided I had to speak to him,he was the greatest dancer in the world and I was determined to speak to him so as he signed my book I said " Thank you Mr Nureyev,it is so kind of you to sign my book"" He looked up at me with that beautiful face and deep blue eyes and smiling at me said " Its a pleasure " and we both smiled and I walked out with a big smile on my face. I was thrilled and even though it was many years ago I still feel wonderful when I think about him. What an amazing talent he had and how he is missed. We will never see his like again. Thank you Rudi xxx

qhsperson They can indeed! It's not very common, partially because the point of pointe is to look weightless and etherial and men aren't usually looking to look that way, lol. There's also the weight issue, male dancers weigh a lot more and that's a lot of added pressure on such small bones. So it's a lot of stress to create a look that's opposite to traditional male ballet roles. But there are lots of men who've done it (professionally and recreationally). There's even a ballet troupe where all the men dance en pointe, Les Ballet Trockadero. They're very funny, you should check them out!

It is the first time I have watched this video. It was interesting to see Mr. Nureyev in this comedy act. Everything fit perfect. Congrats for his partner who did a great job. A beautiful gift for those who love dancing.

I just looked up who was dancing in the pig costume because I was so curious (you could tell they were *good*. Apparently his name was Graham Fletcher and he was a dancer with the Royal Ballet in the UK (at the Royal Opera House). In his later years he was a ballet teacher in the UK.
