I like how Father Cavanaugh might have had his doubts about Rudy at first but never gave up and stayed in Rudy's corner as a mentor through the entire journey.

My whole life, people have been telling me what I could do and what I couldn't do. I've always listened to them, believed in what they said. I don't want to do that anymore." That's powerful shit.

I can totally empathize with him on that. I was always told I couldn't do math very well and when I started out in Community College, I had to started out with Elementary algebra and got nothing but a C average. I'm in Calc I for the 4th time now and just got my first A in my entire mathematical school year going for my AAS degree in Arts and Science, hoping to advance to a university for a mechanical engineering degree and position

This scene is Rudy's awakening as he listens to Fr Cavanaugh's offer. The look on his face at the end of the scene is one of belief; it's the first time he believes he can actually make into Notre Dame if we works hard. He's ready for the challenge. Nobody had ever made it sound possible, but somehow Fr. Cavanaugh's words make the difference. Fantastic scene.

So many great scenes in this movie its hard to pick the best, but probably no other scene combines humor and emotion as this one scene. A scene that can make you laugh and then the next moment pull at your heartstrings.....now that is incredible screenwriting and excellent delivery by the actors!😊

Well there was a little more to the story then that. She wanted to buy a house and settle down and the guy wanted to go chase his dream. She told him that she was not going. How she ended up with the guys brother is a foul ball but nonetheless she just wanted something different then he wanted.

Don't cancel your appointment with him. His schedule is booked for months. Oops, thinking of another 90s movie with the 'Mork' guy that the actor playing the priest was in.

Rudy is a wholly unlikeable character; self-absorbed and self-centered. He doesn't care about anyone, or anything, except Notre Dame and Notre Dame football, and it's actually really sad to watch everyone else enable him throughout the movie. He didn't care about studying in HS, until he's told he can't go on a ND campus tour just to gawk over the football team. Someone does him a favor to get him into junior college - but he doesn't care about the education he receives there, because all he cares about is transferring to Notre Dame. He even says it in the movie, that since Notre Dame doesn't accept senior transfers, it's all been for nothing if he doesn't get in as a junior. Someone offers to tutor him to help him keep his grades up - and when this so-called friend is moving across the country, on his last day there, does he focus on the friend? No, he's too busy pouting in his room because Notre Dame has a new football coach and what about the promise the old coach made to him? He gets a job he's not qualified for to help him pay for it, and his boss lets him sleep there for free (which he doesn't have to do). And after all that, after everything everyone has done to help him get into the University of Notre Dame - because unlike Rudy, they know it is actually a University, not just a football team - this is his way of saying thanks. "I didn't get to play football, so who cares about the rest of it?"
