I was actually inspired to drive through some water during some flooding we had after watching some of these videos. I went slower to avoid getting water into the air intake. That part worked, but what didn't work was the internal water sealing in my car (2015 VW Tiguan). Water got under neath the carpets (there seems to be a drainage hole in the foot wells). I did my best to dry it, but some remained and mold grew in the floor carpets. I had to clean it a ton to get the smell out and it was never 100%. It has mostly gone away now, but I would not go through anymore than a few inches of water now.

it really shows quite a lack of understanding about the inner workings of their cars. most of them would probably have a high enough airbox to make it through without the engine ingesting any water if their drivers would take it slow and not create a huge wave.

Ever heard of a finishing motor? It's like a starter motor but is designed to get a hydrolocked car round that bend and out of the view of those cameras. Rest assured though, that car was just as broken as all the others once it got out of sight with the added bonus of a dead battery as well as the usual snapped con-rods, broken valves and a cracked catalytic converter.

Funny that the car is in so much of a mess, considering it’s running round just fine since then. Drying out wont save them, as soon as any water gets into the cylinders and the driver tries to crank the engine it's got bent rods and cracked block/head. The only saving them is either a full replacement of a teardown of the engine!
@bailey125
2 жыл бұрын
It depends whether the rods or crank are bent or damaged. If the engine simply just seized and locked then it may be able to be saved. Though 99% of the time the driver keeps trying to turn the engine over and restart it which will most likely cause more damage. You would have to be fairly lucky for the engine to not have permanent damage.

LOL most of those getting water-locked cylinders have air intakes comfortably above the water line, yet they're heaving water up and over the air-box by going too fast, making bow waves.. • if your air inlet is above the waterline, you can cross safely by going slowly whilst keeping the revs high enough to overcome water pressure on the submerged exhaust outlet No need to red-line it; 2nd gear whilst slipping the clutch is the best technique.. just be conscious of your air inlet height relative to the waterline. _Not_ rocket science..
