My m77 MKII all-weather is the same as yours but in 300 win mag and has the black zytel stock like yours. It has a 2.5-10x40mm Bushnell Elite 4200 scope on top. Ruger made great barrels but lousy triggers at the time of the purchase so I replaced the factory trigger with a timney trigger group. The gun resembles the winchester model 70 with the 3 point safety and controlled round feed action to prevent jams. Shoots less than MOA 3-shot groups with my 180 grain nosler accubond handloads so I'm very happy with it. It is one of my "never sell" guns.

My dad bought one of those for me to shoot pests with when I was a teen. I've had it on permanent loan. It's very tempting to do a trigger job on it, as I think it has about an 11 Lb pull. Also that amplified safety is not the most desirable hunting feature. You aren't kidding about the recoil. I've been trying to find a bargain on a kick eez model KZ-119 for it. I will give it credit for build quality and being one of the few so called "marine" guns that holds up well on a commercial fishing boat.
@1957Shep

I always thought that a lot of Rugers had "Lawyerized" triggers, but 11 pounds is crazy.
@GunFunZS
10 жыл бұрын
yes. although that's just an estimate. I haven't had my finger certified. We bought it new around 1995 or 1996, I think. It is hard to truly shoot well at range. I don't really expect my father to ever ask for it back, as I've even offered. He doesn't like the cost or recoil. All the same, while I would do the work on it in a heartbeat if it were my own, it isn't. It looks exactly like yours, but with a different scope. I do OK out to about a hundred, if I have a rest and take my time, but it's pretty hard to do a standing shot without yanking the trigger. I personally think Bill Ruger had two opinions of his customers. There were customers he expected to be idiots, who get "nerfed" guns, and then there was cowboy crowd he trusted with a proper trigger. I was shocked how good the trigger was on a New Model Vaquero, after growing up on other Ruger products.

I have one and I have complaints as well. First that is not a 3 pound trigger for a second. My Tikka is set to 2 pounds and I won't lock the bolt until ready to fire. Be dangerous as a hunting trigger for the mass public. 11 pounds is probably right and its not a single stage either. Next is the bolt. They are not smooth. I feel like I am stuffing something round into something square. Its klunky. Felt recoil sucks for the range. 1 or 2 rounds hunting is not noticed. Sight the scope to the ammo and that's enough. Mine was inherited but, in its day was valuable as my brother and I deer hunted with white water canoes. They fair well in the world of submerged. All that said. Its not a rifle designed for the range. It was for where men go to hunt. Where water is going to present itself for days. 2 weeks hunting on a river every year. That's extreme for the general public. M77 is an all weather, bolt action, shoulder fired rifle chambered in multiple calibers. It is closely modeled after an International tractor or catapiller. Using the finest in heavy weight stainless steel and the naked approach for a stock. It errors on the side of heavy duty Alaska rifle. Clean up that bolt, get a good trigger and a slip on butt pad if the throw allows it. And that's a damn fine bush rifle.

The Ruger M77 MKII is not a MOA gun. Rather, it'll hit a bit left or right up or down. So what? Well here's the 'so what' ... Ruger M77's actually tighten up groups when they are neglected. I should say- when they are not cleaned too often. In a way they like being a bit dirty. Not as Remington, Winchester etc's which must be cleaned due to tighter barrel tolerances or failures of various sorts occur. Given this point... Ruger M77 MKII's begin to tighten up groups when they 'run dirty'. This is a fact. Proven by unrelenting Ruger shooters. This also means that the Ruger M77 MKII is, in effect, the AK of Bolt Action Rifles. As a rifle for hunting... well that's one thing.. as a rifle for all purpose survival, defense etc... when cleaning is not a well had luxury ... then understand now why it takes the dirt, the pounding, the abuse and neglect... and keeps right on ticking. This should mean everything to anyone who intends on having a Bolt Action play a major role in worse case scenario situations. For those who are not Ruger afficianado's... nothing can be said... but for those who have a 'thing' for Ruger Bolt Actions... nothing needs to be said.
