I've been wanting to get one of these. I've bought several .380's and carried them for a while then left them sitting in the safe. Out of all of them though, the LCP and the G42 have been my favorites. I'm glad to see Ruger bringing some updates to the LCP. I must resist trying to buy one. I can't give in. Even though I'm sure it will be a great .380 I just don't have a use for it. Oh, damn it, I'll probably buy one. Thanks Sootch, if I wind up with one it will be your fault.

I wouldn't trade my Bersa Thunder380CC for any 380 on the market. Most accurate pistol I own and has not jammed once with any Ammo. More capacity at 8+1 than all the micro 380's and you can get a full 3 fingers around the grip securely with no pinky extension. Much softer recoil and less snappy than the micro 380's with the added weight of all metal construction

After retiring from Philadelphia. PD, I picked up the LCP for deep concealment. I liked the gun for one reason-its size. It was hideous to fire and to rack. Just traded it in for the LCP II last week. Anxious to run 50-60 rounds through it. BTW, you're still the best firearms reviewer IMO. No bull, no personal anecdotes nor cute stories, i.e., no wasted time.

Excellent review brother. One of the best concealed carry options for women. Several years ago, I bought a purple Ruger LCP for my wife when we went up to J&G Sales to purchase my PAP M92. She named her's 'Poppy' and loves that little pocket pistol dearly. Calls it her "get off me" gun. Just jab into the attacker and keep squeezing. She doesn't expect any realistic accuracy out of it in a stressful situation. Funny how she had more information regarding the upcoming release of the LCP II than even I knew. I underestimated how much she enjoys her pistol. Purchased an LC9 before the release of the LCP II for her to try out because we both believe 9mm is a better self defense option, however it simply would not conceal easily on her small frame. Business skirts forced her to carry 'flashbang style' with a looser blouse, rather than form fitting clothes and she simply just didn't feel comfortable carrying it in that manner all the time. So back to the LCP and that's where she stayed. It's really the only thing she can carry on her person in and out of the corporate world. Not always easily accomplished, but doable. However, she has had her eye on a Sig P938, LCP II and to a lesser extent, a Kimber Solo. But a VEPR is now more important than ever she says. Should also mention that Can Can Concealment is her preferred method of concealed carry. Hope this helps some of the female viewers out there since there isn't much information for them. Keep up the good work my friend.

Had my LCP 1 over two years. I finally on this Black Friday got the lcp2 . Wow!! WhAt a difference. To me no comparison. Trigger much better and sights way better. The trigger alone is worth it and make me way more accurate. Closer groups on the 2 . The I trigger was so hard that your first couple of shots you are all over place to your used to trigger . Loved the 1 till I got the 2 ! Now I carry the 2 in my pocket all the time along with my ruger Security 9 .

Thanks for the thoughtful presentation. I appreciate that you do more practical rapid fire. I have an LCP II for six months now and have two comments. Most of these comparisons on KZitem are slow fire at unrealistic distances one might encounter in a real world situation. I would suggest emptying the gun in under two seconds of fire once you started firing, at no more than 15 feet, from either a pocket draw or holster draw. Which gun was able to empty in that shooting time? How did they stay on target with that rapid fire? Other comment relates to upgrades I have made to my LCP II, which have truly improved its shooting. First, add a Hogue grip intended for the LCP II. Greatly improves your grip on a short 1+ finger grip handle. Next, add a HYVE+2 magazine extension. That extends the length of your grip to a 2+ finger grip + gives you 2 more rounds in the magazine. Lastly, I added a second, yet cut down, Hogue grip on to the HYVE +2 extension. This gives me a 9 mm sized 3 finger grip frame size. More control and a faster grip on the gun when drawing. Lastly, look into the Underwood Lehigh Xtreme Defense .380 ammunition. Very different bullet design. No expansion of the bullet. 2" wound channel in ballistic gel from entry to @ 18-24" going through multi-layer denim, wood, sheetmetal, or sheetrock. Meets or exceeds FBI standards. Good rib tests too. Muzzle velocity 1200'/65grain. Much more effective than traditional hollow points. Remember, .380 is 9mm in diameter. There is very little difference between the length of a .380 and 9mm shell casing. That doesn't allow for a lot of difference in gun powder volume, only type of powders used and the bullet used. Thanks again.

Ruger scored a touchdown with this pistol and your video covers it well. I highly recommend a touch of red paint in the front sight and due to my old eyes I painted the rear sight white. Now, I am just as accurate with my ruger lcp11 as with a sig p238!! Both are 100% reliable and for some reason the ruger is always carried in my cargo/burmada shorts stoked with golddots and a spare mag in off pocket; I use the holster ruger provided but need to do something about the spare mag. I don't need lint or dimes screwing it up. Keep up the good work!!

Sootch--Really excellent review! I have both a lcp custom and the lcp11..A family member wouldn't carry either with a round in the chamber so I gave him the lcp11 and I retained the basically double action custom..I can hit with the lcp11 but learning to shoot the custom is a work in progress-lol. Both have approximately 200 rounds through each and are completely reliable! I "flitz" all my pistols before use and only use brass case ammo. With well over a million of these pistols produced Ruger definitely has the springs and tolerances tuned to perfection. I would prefer to carry this over a glock anytime@! Lol Keep up the good work! Let us know when MAC gives in and gets one!

I remember when these first came out. They were basically an exact copy of the Keltec P3AT. I was amazed that Ruger didn't get sued. It's nice to see Ruger changed the look somewhat, these look pretty nice.

I researched this 'deep cover" idea and wound up getting a Ruger EC9s instead for two reasons. 1) If we go to blasters like Star Wars, the last pistol bullet made will likely be a 9mm Luger, aka 9x19. So if the SHTF and the ammo market goes black market, 9x19 will be available right up to the end of the world. 2) Crimson Trace makes a laser red dot for it that is pocket friendly and price was not a big problem. If I had felt a .380 (aka 9mm short) was a round I was willing to go with I would have bought a Walther PPKs. For right around $600 I have a 9mm "long" pistol that I keep in my pocket that nobody has ever noticed, it is 6" long, 4-3/8ths" tall and 15/16ths" wide. It has a 7 round magazine in it and a 9 round spare magazine I keep in a knife case on my belt. It is an easy draw because all the edges are rounded, no protruding "good sights" to hang up on: and with the red dot on it I can get a 2" group at 30 feet every time. Great trigger, totally reliable, all the features of the LCP2 and shoots a 125gr bullet I can trust to go through a windshield at any angle and not lose its trajectory. The LCP2 isn't small enough and light enough to qualify for the "tape-it-to-your-ankle" category. Sorry, but for what it is marketed for, "deep cover", the LCP2 comes up short, like the nickname for the round. In my book the Ruger EC9s with a Crimson trace laser red dot on it is a perfect fit for the deep cover, "put-it-in-your-pocket-right-after-you-put-on-your-pants-in-the-morning-and-forget-about-it" category. It's never more than four feet away from me.

I had the flat base plate in it and I liked it but I would inadvertently drop the mag during shooting. I put the finger rest in there and it pulled my hand a little lower and runs like a charm

Why? Getting hit with a .32 on some people is an annoyance!

I tested this out at the local Factory shoot about 4 months ago and it was fairly impressive. Shooting at cold my accuracy was pretty good even out to about 40 ft although I had a couple of Flyers. What I'd really love to see is a 21st century remake of JM Browning's hammerless pocket Colt 32. perhaps something along the lines of the Glock 42 about the same size or maybe even smaller perhaps if they could make it with a 3 & a half inch barrel and the same group length as the LCP 2 you could carry it in a pocket. if Ruger worked with one or a few of the ammo companies to manufacture of rimless 32 ACP you could also load Buffalo Bore type flat nosed hot loaded bullets without fear of Rim lock. I think a 32 ACP would be really beautiful in that you'd have the reliability of a Centerfire cartridge with less recoil than a 380 ACP more accuracy out to distance with a slightly longer Barrel. I know the American love of bigger and better and in a smaller handgun I don't necessarily disagree but if accuracy is King I think a 32 ACP would fit in the role of mouse gun subcompact even better.

Sootch-With that mustache you need to model Daluth Trading Post "fire hose" cargo shorts. You can carry a shield in the standard pocket and the ruger lcp11 in the pocket below! No printing-lol

I really like my LCP Coyote Special. Being a Native Texas it's even more special. A good friend has the new LCP II and I like my original much better. It is a "smoother" gun for deep concealment and at 7 yds I can shoot plenty tight groups. I mean it's a close quarter, "get them off of you" type of gun. I am NOT intending on spending a day at the range shooting my LCP so most of the "improvements" on the LCP II are a negative for me. The LCP II has too many "blocky" edges for my style of deep carry the original LCP is unequaled at. BTW, I did enjoy the video!

David Parish what is your honest opinion of your LCP trigger? Too long and impractical for close combat defense ?

Pachmayer grip. 7 round mag, good to go. You want a long trigger pull when its deeply concealed. LCP does its job, that's why it's still selling.
