Have recently bought a 308 from 2003. Also trimmed the barrel down to 22 inches and threaded for suppressor. Very pleased with the gun.

The Ruger No 1 is my all-time favorite rifle. Bought my first, a 45-70, in 1974. I have owned 3 in 45-70, 3 in 375 H&H (the one I have now has been re-barreled to 375 Flanged Magnum Nitro Express), 458 Win Mag, 416 Rigby, 450-400 Nitro Express, 300 H&H (a Boddington Kudu) and 30-40 Krag. Thanks for this video! And your rifle is magnificent!

Nice 45-120, I just bought a 45-70, 25-year-old, new from old stock from 1997, never fired unless once at the factory, but no telltale evidence. Your kind manner is pleasant to watch and listen to. When working with such a beauty, I often put 1-2 layers of masking tape on surfaces adjacent to those that require screwdriver or punch action.

Thanks. And I like your idea of using the masking tape.

An excellent video. Your first one covering the subject was fine as well but as you discovered you didn’t really need the background music. Your presentation style is pleasing to listen to & stands on it’s own without ‘enhancements’.

Love your Ruger no.1 and the caliber it's beautiful. I may attempt breaking down my 1984 model to see what I can clean up. I don't believe it's every been taken apart.

is the Falling block at an angle to the bore or is it at 90 degrees?

Good question. I'm pretty sure it's precisely 90 degrees, but I could be mistaken.

Thanks a lot for this nice introduction into Ruger No. 1 surgery. Is it, by any way, possible / advisable to remove the rear stock? I might have to transport a No. 1 which is not fitting the case i have at hand as it is....
@TheWaytoNativeChronicles

Yes, you definitely can remove that stock Norman (I've done it before). Start with removing the two Philips-head wood screws holding the recoil pad on. Once that's removed, you'll need a 7/16" socket on an extension. There's a big hole going into the stock, headed to the receiver which you'll see once the recoil pad is off. Just reach the socket into there and, with a rachet at the end of the extension, undo the bolt. Once it's unscrewed, the receiver will be lose from the stock.

One problem I encountered was self inflicted: up until about1995 I was an avid wd40 user 4 of my older #1’s accumulated so much crap around and inside the block it was softening the firing pin fall. Some gun scrubber for degreasing and switching to ballistol for rust prevention and lube solved it

I recently purchased a used No. 1 in .270 Win. It came with a Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8 scope. My problem is that with the scope mounted as close to the rear as possible without touching the back sight it is still to far from my eye. Has anyone found a scope with a longer eye relief to alleviate this problem?

I put an EGW picatinny on mine. Can mount a little further back and don't even need offset mounts.

@Kandyman54 they take a little filing and trimming to get an exact fit over the barrel /receiver interface but otherwise a perfect fit on my 2003 308 model.

You're welcome Mike. Yeah, I suppose they're a little on the pricey side. Maybe partly because Ruger doesn't make a whole lot of them. Well made for the money though.

Ruger has curtailed production of the No 1 and wouldn’t be surprised if production comes to an end. Without Lipsey’s exclusives, the company probably would have dropped the line years ago.
