This time we came to explore the easternmost outskirts of the Exclusion Zone - the abandoned liquidation settlement of Cape Verde. The place is rarely visited by stalkers, but interesting for its history.
Construction of Cape Verde began in the summer of 1986, and already in the fall of that year the first liquidators moved into the village. Geographically, the liquidators’ settlement was located on the border of the ChEZ near the village of Strakholesya in a relatively clean place in terms of background loads. The village itself was a fully equipped town with shops, cinemas and its own industrial zone. It was inhabited mainly by civil liquidators and workers of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant units operating at that time. The basis of the town was made up of collapsible Finnish houses, which were adapted and insulated for complete living comfort.
