Tortuga, I'm afraid you forgot to add back the sloped deck technology for your newest battleship. Also, does opening the design from clicking the ship add and apply all the technologies like loading the design from the shipbuilding screen do (or should do)? If I were you, just to be sure, I'd try both methods with the same design and see if the free tonnage is the same. Again, just to be sure. Tortuga, you forgot to add the sloped armor scheme on your latest battleship design. That's pretty significant, as it adds half your deck armor thickness to your effective side armor thickness. Many of the more munchkin designs in RTW2 used sloped armor with ultra-thick decks to take advantage of this feature.

*Examination of the Crisis of 1896* By Hermann Kändler - Year 19XX ". . . It would not be unwise, or unapt, to describe the set of alliances at the dawn of the *December Crisis* - technically Late November, when the armament bill was introduced - as a complete mess. It started early on as a clear dichotomy; Another, smaller crisis in (again) the Balkans, setting into motion the _Double_ Entente between France and Russia (August-September 1895. Things were, at the start, relatively peaceful for the time. Of course, things did not last- especially with another Colonial Crisis- this time in China. Japan had recently finished a brief campaign in China - choosing, interestingly, to take the Island territory of Kwang-chou-wan. Expectedly, being in the "French" sphere of influence. This itself is where things get. . . rather muddy. Presumably in an effort to protect against further Japanese Aggression in the Area, Great Britain signed an "Alliance" with France. This also leads to an interesting set of events in which both Russia (and- as we shall see later- Japan) tried to court Germany against the other nation. A Few months later (In September) France Successfully "negotiated compensation" for the intrusion into their sphere of influence- seizing Weihaiwei from China. Expectedly, this also raised tensions in Japan and caused them to try and get diplomatic support from Germany. Tensions between France and Germany during this interterm period were surprisingly stable, but not at all what could be considered "friendly." . . . however, coming around back to Early- then late November, A new government had legislated a new armament bill to be implemented- it is easy to understand why France had such an adverse reaction. In the eyes of the day, it still remained to be seen; or anticipated- where the Web of Alliances would lead from there. . ."

At 7:30, regards to the torpedoes, I can think of a few possibilities. 1. It doesn't show the weight of the actual torpedoes and the 16 tones is the weight of the launcher. 2. Its not showing the weight of the structural reinforcement to hold the weight of the launchers. 3. The added weight to support the crew needed to man and maintain them. It doesn't seem to be the engine as the weight and horsepower of the engine didn't change after you put them on.

I've watched the entirety of your RTW material and bought RTW2 on that account. I'm afraid the footage of RTW3 I've seen from you and others is convincing me not to do so again. While there has been severe improvements on superstructure drawings, there hasn't been any on the commands during battle (eg. telling a B division to go toe to toe against enemy ships as was the case in the 1890s, instead of trying for best or worst to make that happen) or the time resolution during battles (late BB main batteries should fire twice per 1 minute turn, not to mention the smaller calibers). Nor has there been the addition of armour type, during the most exciting era for that (going from nickel steel, to harvey, to krupp, to cemented; by god the B's from the beginning might have been mounting a belt of 20" of high nickel steel!). Anyhow, thanks for the material, it has been appreciated for decision making, both positive and otherwise. And if the Cronenberg suffers a horrific gory end, whenever it gets put to sea, it will be well deserved.

Yeah, that is a pretty significant change, now expanding bases beyond a certain point costs almost as much as building a single cruiser, instead of a one time investment of X amount. As for the research, you can't set gun research priority, other than you want guns, and you want them now.

Id imagine adding more weapons to your ship may or may not include the weight of the CREW needed to man it and the Ammo to fire it. Cus honestly, alot of OLD DDs they ether had Center Lines or Side launched. Maybe once you get a few tonnage increases you can go for double side mounts if it allows you to do that. Or heck if it lets you put some torps on the BOW cus why not right? At this point in time, id imagine most of your "colonial" Service ships would be Light Cruisers, with maybe a couple Armored Cruisers to accompany them (just in case) and later some DDs once they get BIG enough. Cus i can't imagine they would send Battleships to the Pacific colonies, at least not till after WW1 ISH.

Is it worth designing new battleships about every year? They seem to have very slight improvements over the previous designs you have. Would it not be better to just start a new production run of the Donnerkeil (which hasn't even launched yet), and wait until there's a significant improvement, such as a better quality gun, or much better armor etc? Just seems like the cost to design all of these ships isn't worth their improvements yet.
@MisterMac4321
Жыл бұрын
It might be better for Germany to refit/overhaul their older ships to incorporate new tech. In addition to being faster to put those upgraded vessels back into service it's also significantly cheaper than building new ships that are functionally identical to the old ones. The key is that you can't really add much armor in a refit, so it's better to initially build your ships with a lot of armor and then improve the guns and propulsion systems as your tech improves. Historically most ships were built with the mindset that they had about 25 years of service life in them providing they received two refits somewhere in that timeframe (and the implicit understanding that by the time of their second refit they were effectively not going to be capable of front line service). You'll notice that Tortuga hasn't really refitted any of his ships, which makes sense to an extent because his tech hasn't really advanced enough to warrant it and because he's busily trying to play catch up in the numbers game (e.g. Germany only has 9 battleships while its most likely enemy, France, has 18). So he's faced with the conundrum of having to choose between upgrading older ships (to keep them effective) or building new ships (to put himself back on something of a rough numerical equivalency with his potential enemies).

The sub is forced to rise, if they even go near the gun, the deck will be awash with blood and dying gun crew. The game, however, seems to rate Corvettes as derisory, the sub has a great chance to blow this insignifant little boat out of the water. Annoys the shite out of me, when making a vessel, make it as potent as possible, at least give the corvettes two guns? So the game doesn't get to ;eff-over the Corvette crews, trying to keep it real.
