Wow! Great review! I finally got a moment to pull my head up form the holidays and watch this and drop my 2 cents. I'm a Community Ambassador for the game, and everything you call out of the strengths of the game are exactly what pull me back time and time again. I've been playing for 8 years, and despite loosing interest and taking large breaks along the way, something just always brings me back. The need for cooperation with your crewmates is just such an awesome mechanic and I haven't found anything quite like it. That along with the surprising amount of depth that the different weapon, damage, and ammo types really makes a complex sandbox that keeps me interested and theory crafting even when I'm away from the game. As you mentioned, player counts are low. That said, there are still a number of players that play regularly and will jump on for community run events, ranging from casual to silly to competitive. EU and NA evenings are the best times for random games, and you can always count on a good PvP lobby running during events. The official game discord has a decent amount of activity and information about all the events, along with a channel people will post in if they are trying to get a game together. I'll be the first to admit that Guns of Icarus is a "Dead Game" by many standards, but it's got the most life of any dead games I've every played. If you or any of your subscribers every want to give it another try, maybe even try out the PvP portion of the game please check out the discord, and feel free to shoot me a ping there (Teaco over there), or ping any of the other Community Ambassadors. With a little notice and planning we can probably even organize getting some regulars in to help fill a lobby and teach anyone who is new a few tricks. All in all, nice video, and hope to see you all in the skies! o7 Edit: I forgot to mention, the game a seamless cross play between PlayStation and PC, so regardless of you platform feel free to jump in and give it a try!

It's pretty sad to see this game being dead since it got a lot of attention from Angry Joe, totalbiscuit (rip), pewds, and a bunch of other YTers. I love this game and you have found a person who always play eng unless manning a boat. I think what killed this game was that it didn't have that much advertising after the skirmish with the YTers. Not once did i see anything outside of the YT videos. They have a discord server that they mention games with the devs but even then the discord is also very dead.

This is the fairest and unbiased reviews of this game I have come across, to date, so thank you for that. I personally love this game and often pop back in to do some Alliance missions. But I have to say the PVE missions (rather than the PVP) make this game for me.

Alliance wasn't even released until GOI was on the verge of dying. Back in 2013-2015 though it was a great game, The level of strategy and skill needed in PVP is significantly higher than Alliance, but the gameplay was much better because you could do a lot more fun stuff. Its a tragic tale of the developer deciding gatekeeping who was allowed to play and not only ignoring what the community wanted but telling them they were bad people for wanting it. They banned or chased off anyone they didn't like and ignored the genuine bad actors who were causing problems. The result was all the high skill people either leaving or only playing with other high skill people and not even talking to anyone else. So when any new people showed up they would be matched against people who had been playing for years. Then surprise surprise, the people who got steamrolled every match decided it wasn't fun and stopped playing altogether.

The upside is that my friends and I had a perfectly excellent time being bad at the game together. I would be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued by all these hints of behind the scenes drama I keep seeing, though.

Guns of Icarus has the issue of great game. Shame about the players. And by that I mean most gamers don't actually want to play full cooperative gameplay. Where you need to actually be synced with other players to function as a team. Most want to be able to do most things without help. Apex? you can solo that game if you're good enough or your enemies are bad enough. Guns of Icarus. You can't repair components, man the guns (with the correct ammo) and pilot the ship at the same time. If 1 of those things are not being done during combat. GG you lost the game and there's nothing you can do about it, because objectively it was someone else's job and they refuse to do it. So summarise. Its great with friends. It just a shame no one has any fking friends.

Back when this game was popular, I spent so much time on it @___@ it was really fun collaborating on the harder difficulties, where the captains would have to use the separate "captain voice chat" to coordinate between ships, while also micro-managing the people on their own ships. Also I knew a few people who were really good at engineer and enjoyed it; personally I kinda preferred it to gunner. Also there were a few ship setups where you would want to run 2 gunners and 1 eng instead of the typical 2 eng 1 gunner

When the original guns of icarus game came out I adored the idea, but being a socially awkward shut in meant having no friends to play it with so I always missed out.
