I ran a diesel out of fuel once. A new job a started 15 years ago. First day, boss told me to take a load of rock to a site and come back. I went back in after I started it and said, truck needs fuel. He said " you have enough, go ahead". I made it about half way back ran out. It was a 6 liter powerstroke. Boss then turned it on me and yelled at me. Told me I should of hot fuel out of my pocket. Took us over an hour to get it started. My first and last day at that job. I don't need to deal with a douchebag boss on a daily basis at that pay scale.

Great video thanks brother. With every thing you have that's diesel I can emagin how handy that tank is. I always liked the crossover on the bottom of the tanks. I can't stand the newer ones on top with a valve ontop the transmission. Peterbilt is really bad you don't have the truck level and the valve level you drain one tank faster. I know that every time you take it loose to work on the truck got to make sure the truck and valve are level. That truck you showed probably got fueled up at least twice a day. Probably got wrote up for the fuel gauge many times just not a priority on there part. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother. Like the way you do what you have to do to get the job done. I hate when people put filters on tight. The fuel filters aren't any fun to begin with.

Good to know the truck stop vs gas station tip. I hadn't thought of that.

Wrong comment. Is the same. The pump will not pull gas from the bottom of the tank and the water will be there. Plus they check for water in tank frequently.

A lot of the newer trucks draw out of the top of both tanks and don't use a cross over fuel line anymore

Love the ratchet strap for removing the fuel filter. I guess when you don't have the tools you need it's time to come up with a genius idea to get it done

I had a 98 inch with an n14. It pulled out of the right tank returned to the left tank ran out of fuel at a 1/2 tank. Right tank was empty left tank was Coming out at the fuller cap. The company had great mechanics. They never did figure out why it did that. Nor how to fix it.

I don’t understand the reasoning behind the need of changing the fuel filters. So running out of diesel will cause fuel filter damage or clogged?
@j.c.smithprojects
5 жыл бұрын
when you run low or out of fuel, you end up sucking all the dirt and junk out of the tank and into the filters. then there isnt enough fuel getting to the engine.
@patgill4968
5 жыл бұрын
The only dirt you would suck up on an empty tank would be stuff that floats on top of the diesel as the pickup pipe is fixed and always sucking from near the bottom of the tank, unlike say a chainsaw where the pickup pipe floats and so sucks from near the top of the fuel......
@audreybrodeur2263

Diesel is lighter than water so the condensation of water on the inside of the tanks will drop at the bottom of the tanks. So the water will be suck into the filter. That is why in winter , keep the tanks top up. What floats on top of water might not necessarily float on top of diesel fuel.
