The drummer was legendary not only for his playing and lyrics, but for also avoiding his fans at almost any cost! He hated fame and his celebrity status. He only really gave interviews later in their career and never did any sort of meet & greets at shows. He could never understand why people felt they "knew" him and wanted to be around him, when they were total strangers to him hence the line "I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend". This song basically tells you all you need to know about Rush's band members' personalities! Just three normal, family guys from Canada. Not the image you'd expect from three of the most amazingly talented musicians and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers that influences countless bands over their 40 year career. Is it?

What the lyrics have always said to me... A comparison between seeming to be and being. Living in the limelight is the universal dream. Everyone wishes to be the star of the show. But as Bob Seger said so well, Here I am, playing star again. Seeming to be. Living in the limelight The universal dream For those who wish to seem ------------------------------------------------------------ If we really want to be, we have to put aside being the star of the show which separates us and alienates us from everyone. Instead of being the star, we must be fascinated with the show and relate to it's underlying theme. Those who wish to be Must put aside the alienation Get on with the fascination The real relation The underlying theme ------------------------------------------------------------ As long as we are the players, performers and portrayers, we are in the gilded cage. Be the audience. The show is for the audience. The audience is what is real. All the world's indeed a stage And we are merely players Performers and portrayers Each another's audience Outside the gilded cage

Linelight came from their 1981 album Moving Pictures. The lyrics were written by drummer/lyricist Neil Peart as an expression of his discomfort with life in the public eye. He was an introvert as I am, who needed time to himself to recharge his mental energy, and who preferred to first establish a meaningful connection with someone before he could feel comfortable allowing them into his personal space; he also struggled with anxiety issues stemming from a near-drowning incident at the age of 10, as recalled in his book Travelling Music and in an online article from Rolling Stone Magazine. To me, the chorus speaks to how extroverts mainly crave the spotlight and think that they need to act like they're someone else to attract a large crowd of followers, while we introverts mainly prefer to work in the background, follow our own internal motivators, and seek authenticity in ourselves and others. If you'd like to see more of what Neil and his bandmates were all about, here are a few suggestions: Tom Sawyer, official music video YYZ Live In Rio Xanadu, Exit Stage Left Freewill, Exit Stage Left Natural Science, Toronto Molson Amphitheater, 1997 Best Intro Ever/The Spirit Of Radio, R30 Tour Animate, R30 Tour Live In Frankfurt Drum Solo, R30 Tour Working Man Live In Cleveland, Time Machine Tour 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐

Hi my beautiful Jazmine, Rush is not only a powerful group, I think you will find the lyrics, written by the Drummer Neil Peart, as very healing going right along with your new channel. Their lyrics will help you reflect on any topic in life. This one is about trying to deal with fame and is iit really what a person wants.

So yes, Fame is a blessing and a curse. You know that in the one lyric that says, "I can't pretend a strange is a long awaited friend" The drummer Neil Peart, R.I.P., had a problem with fame and did not like all the adulation, and have people comng up to him that he did not know and treat him as if they were frriends their entire life. It creeped him out.
