And the best part is that on the drums, there are no overdubs. It's all Neil playing live on electric drums and triggering different sounds. And yes, he incorporated parts of this song into his drum solo. Bass drum with his right foot, snare triggered with his left, and all the other sounds with his arms...

the entrance back from the acapella chorus is one of my favorite Rush "moments" of all time... and what makes it is the fast delay-laden acoustic strum pattern in the background. Alex = genius

Yes, some of the drumming in this is part of Neil's various drum solos. Great, evocative lyrics too. That line "Snow falls deep around my house and holds the winter light" I think all of us who live where it snows immediately understood what he meant.

They did this song live on the presto tour and during it, a transparent curtain was lowered in front of the stage to allow the lasers to have a 3D effect in the auditorium. 🤘🖖✌️🥁🎤🎹🎸

I missed that tour, I would've really liked that. I seen them many times. But I was fortunate enough to see their final tour, Clockwork Angels in Houston. The guy sitting in front of us started crying on The Garden...I put my hand on his shoulder, he looked back at me, my wife & my guitar player and I said, "man, don't worry...I understand!"

Yes, it's a good album...(btw, RUSH is my fav band) but this album and Power Windows and maybe one more, were almost unbearable at high volume because the studio folks mixed it with way too many high-end hertz/mega-hertz. Guitars and keys were just over blown. And the bass was not heavy enough. I know, Geddy went through a "running the neck" fingering phase for a while, and I loved it...he was just after that precise, clean, Rotosound Roundwound bass string in your face craftmanship. That's why he succumbed, and went back home to Fender Jazz bass-land...after the STEINBERGER & WAL BASS ventures.

Love every one of your Rush reactions TB. Saw this show 3 times (Providence, Tampa, Montréal). Lucky to see them transition back into a more guitar focused band. This song gets to me every time. Neil is definitely preaching on this one (as with all of his lyrics!). His use of imagery painting a poignant picture of life's beautiful moments and the seemingly more cruel, unjust moments, calling into question the meaning of life on earth. In so many ways he’s light years ahead, and in other ways he’s so very much an old soul; almost Ecclesiastical in how he reflects life in general and mankind's purpose here. Presto is definitely one of their underrated albums, though no less than their more acclaimed albums, and certainly showcases the Triumvirate in full maturity and musical capabilities.

"I’ve stood upon my mountaintop and shouted at the sky walked above the pavement with my sense amplified - I get this feeling all my nerves are naked wires tender to the touch sometimes super-sensitive but who can care too much? - I get this feeling Scars of pleasure Scars of pain Atmospheric changes Make them sensitive again each emotional injury leaves behind its mark sometimes they come tumbling out like shadows in the dark - I get this feeling when I think about all I have seen and all I’ll never see when I think about the people who have opened up to me - I get this feeling snow falls deep around my house and holds the winter light I’ve heard the lions hunting in the Serengeti night - I get this feeling forests turned to factories and river, sea, and sky hungry child in the desert and the flies that cloud her eyes - I get this feeling Pleasure leaves a fingerprint As surely as mortal pain In memories they resonate And echo back again."

Consider this song was made in 1988-89 and then think of the club beats that followed in the years that followed. Seems that Rush was ahead of the curve here.

Funny. Everyone has a favorite song from this album and many others don't really even like it. I love this album, but I do agree that it doesn't have enough in the low end sounds. Doesn't sound like there's any heft to it. Not sure why it was mixed like that, but none the less, still one of my favorite albums of theirs.
