Jesse Starner actually I never understood why so many Rush fans depreciate this song. It’s a typical Rush straight to the “riff” song, catchy and tight, with some melodic synths lines to punctuate it. Always loved it and always loved the whole album due to some reasons. To me it reminds me cold and snowy winters. It’s great to get back to that time every time I listen to it. 👍😍

This whole album is so weak sounding because of the empty lame production by rupert hine. Horrible producer choice for a hard rock band known for their power. He sucked the life out of them on presto and roll the bones. These songs are better live.

Michele Bravin my guess is that its kind of a little goofy and the soft rock chorus isnt exactly what youd expect from a hard rock band, especially the band that put out stuff like 2112 and moving pictures. @apieceofdirt4681

Tim Renken Thankfully Counterparts was only one more album away. I like HYF, PW and GUP but I agree, Presto is kinda thin. Their live sound from TFE to 2015 was horrible IMO. Neil switched over to those godawful DW drums and started working with Freddie Gruber. Talk about sucking the life out of someone, Freddie took a powerhouse like Neil FuckingPeart and convinced him there was a jazz drummer inside of him!! He wasn’t the same after. TFE is the weakest RUSH album drum wise that I’ve heard and Vapor Trails sure as hell wasn’t any better. Snakes & Arrows was better but his drum parts were no longer creative. I still bought their merchandise and went to all of their concerts but I was hoping they’d maybe shake each other and get back to the RUSH everyone knows them for. That never happened. If I could change 1 thing about RUSH’s past I’d completely take Freddie Gruber OUT of the picture!!
@steviemac2377
5 жыл бұрын
@@apieceofdirt4681 Dude his DW's were always terrible sounding. Yea i agree he wasn't the same after he started studying with Gruber and other musicians. Played a lot more relaxed and refined where Even Geddy and Nick Raskulinecz both have mention that they had to kinda poke at him to do more. That's why on A Clockwork Angels, Nick Raskulinecz literally was in the room with him with a drumstick like a conductor so their would be more energy in the recording. I think he was just done being a drummer a long time ago but just kept going because Geddy and Alex didn't want to stop plus it's kinda hard to turn down that kind of money at the same time

On the album version of superconductor, Alex's part is actually the producer, "rupert hine". Also the subdivisions part that alex sings live was actually peart in the studio!! Neil was actually quite prolific with his occasional voice overs.............the howling posse in witch hunt, the necromancer narrator, the new york guy intro of camera eye and the london accent guy in the same track before the guitar solo(neil actually lived in london for a few years pre rush fame!!), but arguably, his most legendary voice was the "attention all planets.....2112 finale!!". Im not sure If neil did the "roll the bones" rap,but if he did, he ought to keep that one quiet...... A lot of people think neil did the intro of cygnus x1 but that was terry brown the producer.

Part of the problem with "Presto" and "Roll The Bones" is that songs like these ROCKED live, but on record, they sounded thin and lacked balls. This is what prompted Rush to make the radical sound changes they did with "Counterparts," even though the songs on "Counterparts" in many cases were not as good as on "Presto" and "RTB." It really goes to show you how engineering and production factor into making a good sounding record.

This is great. Was this a MTV or VH1 thing? I don't believe it was released as a concert DVD was it? It helps fill in the gap between "A show of Hands" and "Rush in RIO". Great to see Neil in his tip top prime at around age 37. Also great to see a couple of songs from the under rated Presto. Thanks for posting!

I always feel Rush neglected this album, which is a real shame because I think this album was was one of their strongest moments. (Presto was the only album that didn't have one of it's songs included on the R30 setlist)

My only Rush concert was 1990 in Oakland. My buddy and I smuggled in a 35mm camera. My favorite memory was the drum kit raising up out off the stage during a Peart solo.

Damn where can I find the entire pro shot video of this show??? That was fantastic! Show this tour in Dallas, TX. I was so elated when Presto came out, I knew Rush were getting back to their roots as a hard rocking power trip!!

I always found this song to be an excellent sequel to "Spirit of Radio." SOR focused on the freedom and spirit of music and the free airwaves, and lamented the threat that the business of music presented to that. But Superconductor came along at a time when the balance between the spirit of music and the business of music had shifted dramatically in favor of the business side. In the 80s, record companies and producers had a firm stranglehold on music production and distribution, and the successes of artists like Madonna, Paula Abdul, Milli Vanilli, and Janet Jackson (with their team of producers and writers behind them) was the delivery on the warning of SOR. Not to disregard the merits of their work (except Milli Vanilli!), but music became big business, and that spirit which Neil tried to capture in SOR was pushed WAY aside in favor of the calculated "coldly charting" approach of the 80s music machine. Neil saw it going there in 1980, and then turned around and contributed to one of the greatest non-calculated rock albums ever in 1981's Moving Pictures.
