"It takes a little more persistance to get up and go the distance." - words to live by. Neil battled his own fears and anxieties stemming from a near-drowning incident at the age of 10, which came to a head as they were wrapping up the North American leg of the Grace Under Pressure Tour, as Geddy described on page 332 of his book My Effin Life. If you'd like to hear more about what Neil dealt with, I'd like to recommend the song Limelight, whose official music video was filmed as they were recording it. Rest in peace Professor. 🥁 🥁 🐐 🐐

This is one of many Rush song where you have to wonder how in the hell Geddy played that verse bass line while singing at the same time. The bass riff is on a completely different rhythm from the vocal melody,,, and he makes it look effortless. This entire band is just unbelievable, especially live. I seen them 32 times starting with Permanent Waves in 1980. They were a completely different concept experience than the average concert. All three are so good that it was hard to know which one to watch at any given time?

Yes, another banger song by them. The fear series is 🔥 Our worst enemy is always ourselves. I would have never known English is not your first language. You speak it very well. As you mentioned Tool, Rush was a big influence on them. For most songs I would go with a live performance for most part. Having the lyrics up is a great idea as Neil's lyrics are usually quite deep. You are going to be amazed by Xanadu when you get to it. Cheers 🇨🇦 ❤

Yeah Rush rabbit whole...I'm 61 now, I've been and still am a music lover... never found something like Rush. I was a big fan by the end of the 70's and early 80's, they were so surprising, 1 album a year each one was an exploration. Between 1978 to 1984 the change was constant and their music evolved staying complex, energetic, positive... it was just awesome. For some though guys their music was for nerds...Rush was never trash or never had a "destroy vibe" like some though bands did. They just focused on creativity and hard work while having fun. I just read the last book Neil P wrote...what an humble and brilliant man (RIP). I know you saw "The Weapon" studio version, but the 1984 Live version in TO was remastered and really worth a listen. Have fun !

The different formats are all valid to react to and the best can depend on the listeners focus. The comic book style of the 2112 and YUZ music videos are my favorites while the Clockwork Angels tour has several great live performances. Some songs with deep lyrics are fun to listen to with the lyrics available, whether on a separate screen, in captions, or a straight lyric video. The live videos do let you see their talents as well as hear them better than the others.

I'm an old fan from '77, and for a long time, my friends and I pronounced Neil's name as rhyming with "hurt". There were some very good music they made back in the 80's. Watching the videos can be difficult though because, well.... it was the 80s. Clothing and hair styles were embarrassingly horrid back then. The 80s were a period of excess, and it showed in the styles. Clothing was layered and jewelry was stacked and hair was all over the place.

@@SaeedReacts. Since you are a writer you'd probably understand that when finding a new good author you go back and read them in the order of publication date so you can see how they developed as a writer. I suggest that too for Rush. Go back and start and the beginning and put on their first album and listen to it a few times in all it's rawness and them having a different drummer. Then move on to the next and live with it a while. They are all so enjoyable... And also so different... :)

Thank you for another great RUSH reaction, Saeed. Your ability to be vulnerable and think deeply about the lyrics offers me a bridge to connect with you at a deep level. Another "motivational" song is One Little Victory, a reflection Neil wrote about his 3-4 year healing journey after his daughter and wife died. RUSH thought they were done as band; They didn't play from late 1997 to mid 2001. Playing this song live on their return tour was a big victory for the band. Here is a live version from Rio where they had their biggest audience ever. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uGmOz6p-f5lqioI
