Only Neil would think up a drum pattern like this. Everything is out of order yet it falls perfectly into place.

“Only Neil would think up a drum pattern like this.” This is precisely why Sterling’s vids are so expository of Neil’s brilliance. Even a song like “Stick It Out”-a hard, driving drum part, so evocative of the grungy ’90s sound, but he never hits a single tom, it’s just the snare and bass drum.

And I've never heard another drummer do anything close to what Neil originally played in this song ever ! I called this the ''Drummers Song"....it taught me what I called "hi hat integration" and help me to add some more variety to my playing style. And i saw in your playing style something my 1st drum teacher could never assist me to over come. Being able to play the high hat completely left handed. I tried for years to learn how to do that.....just never could get the timing to do so. I admire and hate drummer that can do that...but respectfully tho.

I think the spirit of Neil Peart jumped into this guy. Absolutely fabulous. Neil Peart is widely regarded as the Jimi Hendrix of drums. I think Neil has earned it. Well done lad. You are a credit to your nation ...and your parents who let you pursue your passion.

"We’ve got nothing to fear - but fear itself? Not pain or failure, not fatal tragedy? Not the faulty units in this mad machinery? Not the broken contacts in emotional chemistry? With an iron fist in a velvet glove We are sheltered under the gun In the glory game on the power train Thy kingdom’s will be done And the things that we fear Are a weapon to be held against us… He’s not afraid of your judgement He knows of horrors worse than your Hell He’s a little bit afraid of dying - But he’s a lot more afraid of your lying And the things that he fears Are a weapon to be held against him… Can any part of life - be larger than life? Even love must be limited by time And those who push us down that they might climb - Is any killer worth more than his crime? Like a steely blade in a silken sheath We don’t see what they’re made of They shout about love, but when push comes to shove They live for the things they’re afraid of And the knowledge that they fear Is a weapon to be used against them…"

Love it. I'm a huge Rush fan and love everything they've done. This has always been one of my all time favorite Rush songs specifically because of the drum part. The way the kick is this constant driving force while the snare, toms and cymbals are sporadic and hitting on odd beats is so awesome. Plus the snare work is super cool. Your rendition is spot on!

Spot on. Think this is one of your best. This sort of a "flyover" song that I don't think of much, yet seeing it performed perfectly makes me appreciate on a whole new level. NPs Drum composition is just so unique. Thi Hi Hat work is something else. Funny but Neil often spoke of inspiration from other drummers. I see some Stewart Copeland in the HH work. Keep up the great work Stirling

Let me raise my (hi?) hat to you Sterling! You perfectly reproduced all the subtle nuances of that highly involved piece on all the toms and especially on the hi-hat itself. Kudos to you sir! If I may be very picky for a moment, the only thing missing is you flipping your right-hand stick in the air like Neil does during the verse parts of his live rendition (kzitem.info/news/bejne/yop43mSGaayApHY ).
