This is THE quintessential Wes Anderson movie. Great casting, story, music. Also funnier than any of the other of his movies I've seen. It was fresh and smart. One of a few favorite movies that I can re-watch without much resistance.

As many have heard, Wes Anderson is currently in pre production with Max (Rushmore II). Like this scene, Max has a "Reality Dream" and finds himself in bed with Marilyn Monroe. They are working out the details of the movie having an X rating. It is confirmed that Adrian Barbeau will be playing the 96 year old Marilyn. Hopefully the movie will be ready by Christmas.

Fun fact: the problem on the board is actually very simple and most calculus students should be able to solve this problem relatively easily. It's just asking to find the area of an elipse using standard calculus, it even gives you the equation for the area of the circle in case you don't know how to solve It's integral. At least the problem made sense I'll give the film makers brownie points for that but should've made an actually really hard problem.
@ninjadude853
11 ай бұрын
It might have been intentional. The whole scene is Max fantasizing about being awesome and everyone loving him, so the problem could have been intentionally chosen to seem impressive to a student like Max that hasn’t made it to Calculus yet. I don’t think Wes Anderson personally formulated the problem or anything, but someone who is good at math could have been asked to “write a problem that isn’t actually that hard, but would look impossible to Max.”

Yeah, you missed the point of the scene. It’s a fantasy from the point of view of a child. Also think about the what the teacher offers. If anyone can solve that problem, he’ll make sure they never pick up a math book again ever. That makes no sense (you’re so good at math you’ll never have to do it again), but to a teenager, that sounds like the ultimate reward.
