Brilliant presentation, men. I was the oldest male in my family and the only one eligible to go to Vietnam. I was in college and had good grades, which protected me from the first draft notice I received. My lottery number was 196 and just before Thanksgiving, they called up everyone 187 and lower. I was sure that I was going to be called up if they pulled in the next round since I was only 9 numbers above the last cutoff point. I forgot to say that as a freshman, I was in Army ROTC. I quit ROTC because I could see that the US military had no plan to win. My buddies that had gone to Vietnam came home either tucked up or in bags. My dad was a senior in college in 1941 and enlisted in the USN on Monday, December 8th. He and I had vastly different perspectives on fighting in the US military. At Thanksgiving dinner, Dad commented that it looked like I would be packing my bags soon. I simply said, "Yes." He said I had to do what I had to do and I said, "Yes, I know." We lived in Washington and owned 50 acres in B.C. I told Dad that I would be OK in Canada. That cost me about 35-40 years with my dad. Chuck, thanks for saying what you said at the end of your presentation. It was what I knew about Vietnam. Dad could not see that Vietnam was not the same as WWII. I would willingly fight for my country, Vietnam was not that. At 73, I a very fortunate to look, feel, and act like I'm a health 60 year old. I'm in the process of moving to a farm I bought 3 years ago. I'm writing this to you from that farm right now. It is beautiful here right now in Älgered, Sverige, about 3 hours north of Stockholm. Not going to Vietnam cost me a lot. Dad and I had 10 good years before he died. Taking the risk of living my truth made all the difference. I'm now watching the war in Ukraine from my farm in NATO's newest member. That's a win. Thanks for what you said, Chuck. We still do not know what Putin will do, but I'm still willing and able to stand up and fight for what is right.

well the last time the Russians deployed the T-55 , 54 in large numbers was during the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. And as I recall during the 80s, the Soviet army did not field the T-55 and T-54s they gave these tanks to their client states, the Soviets units deployed in Afghanistan category C units from Central Asia used T-62s, they gave T-55s to their allied puppet Afghan National army, if during a war the Soviet army starts fielding T-55s in large numbers , then it would be scraping the bottom of the barrell and their front line Category A B and C units have been decimated. Yep same thing is happening to Russia the successor state to teh USSR in this war. The Russians are losing this war.

from what I read, the reason why the Russians are fielding large number of T-55s and 62s is that these tanks are a bit less costly and easier to refurbish than the newer T-64s, 72s 80s and 90s from the storage depots. since these tanks are less complicated centering on the auto loader which is complicated to repair and refurbish. and Ive also heard a lot of ammo for the T-55s and 62s are defective due to poor storage and age of the ammo, since the Russians dont produce them anymore so they are force to source them out to North korea...LOL. A tank shot is immediate, with no chance for infantry to hide or even drop to the ground and it often causes highly damaging shrapnel, from trees for instance, to severly injure and even kill soldiers. Also, because tanks in "artillery mode" use very-very fast shoot-and-scoot, they are much harder to hit with anti-tank weapons.

An interesting strategy would be to look which specific individuals are deployed in Russia, figure out contact info, emails, phone numbers of them and family members and send them a detailed and easy to understand list on how to reduce the odds of debt, how to flee safely, how to destroy your own assault vehicles, how to defect, how to hinder the efforts of the russian army as to (again) reduce the odds of deployment. Add videos of defected/imprisoned russian soldiers who explain these approaches to their own comrades calmly, respectfully and patiently on video.

the Ukraine war is much worse than the American experience in Vietnam, true we lost the war in Vietnam however we won most battles. Russia has lost many battles in the Ukraine war and the war is a bloody stalemate. with the Russians losing 550K casualties so far, in 2.5 years of war. USA lost 360K casualties in Vietnam from 1964 to 1972. 8 years of war. and I think by the time this war ends, the Russians will probably lose more than 1 million Casualties. and lose the war, that will have much worse effects on its society than the Vietnam war had on the USA society. The last time the Russians lost a major war was the Soviet Afghan war of the 80s and you can say they lost the cold war, the USSR broke up. Same will happen to the Russian federation.

Cuck Pfarrer is awesome!! I support all that johnwalsh4857 said, just want to comment on public perception of stalemate. Stalemate? Four fronts: Sea, Land, Air, Infiltration (cyber, media, control of politics, social and economy, and replace Ukrainians with Russians). Yesterday, Russia pulled back all ships from the Azov Sea. Russia is totally defeated at sea. Done. No one talks of this, at all. Air = drones, jets, missiles, rockets, artillery. This week, Ukrainians fired a wooden stick at an advanced Russian drone that was caught up in the propeller and brought it down. There you go. Iraq war showed that it is all air, then send in some troops to hold down surrendered territory. I think 90% of the casualties in Ukraine are from air power, not clashing ground fire. Russia has lots of meat for the grinder, so they are sending in waves of bodies, just like both sides of WWI. So, they are creating fronts in east Ukraine, Ukrainians have to react, outnumbered. Russia's strategy is to overwhelm their opponent, in everything. Only thing they can do because they have no strategy or know how to coordinate fighting, everything is abysmal. No quality to your game, use quantity. Constantly give their enemy more than they can handle, might eventually fold. WWII, millions of Soviet soldiers died this way. Russia knows it's a lost cause for the troops, but it overwhelms the Ukrainians. Not a stalemate, just Putin buying time until Nov. 5. But Ukrainians know the Russians are coming to replace them and are fighting for their very existence. Russia knows Americans and media can only understand WWII, MASH, Vietnam style war, boots on the ground, square inches of territory, maps, scorecards. It's how they play football, not futbol/soccer. You'd think the Iraq wars would have changed that. 20 years from now, it will be A.I. robots as boots on the ground. Ukrainians invented a remote stretcher that on wheels goes out to a wounded soldier, he rolls on, and it brings him back to his side. They designed a tank that goes 60 mph on the highway and floats in water. Ukrainian made Neptune cruise missiles. $5,000 wax cardboard Australian drone damages a Russian destroyer. The Russians are exploiting what little Americans know or have been incorrectly taught/told. Haley was right, "If Ukraine was given everything they were promised, this war would be over by now." Russian nukes are probably just like its military - dysfunctional. If they work, most would probably land in Russia if launched. Take off the handcuffs and like Churchill said, "Give us the tools and we will win."

I would feel better about the Ukrainian Military if so many legacy Soviet minded Commanders were not in charge of Ukrainian Divisions, Brigades, and Battalions. Armed with NATO equipment, these Ukrainian Military Leaders still use Soviet Unit organization and schemes. As a Military Intelligence Officer of a US Brigade, I know what the Battle Planning Process around a 5 Paragraph OPORD involves. This is a NATO standard. I believe Ukrainians only plan at Corp and Division Levels in a “similar” manner. Most Ukrainian Battalions and all but a few Brigades have no Battle Planning Process. The US teaches The Battle Planning Process at all levels to make sure any promoted Officers are competent enough to fill their new rows. What is The Battle Planning Process around a 5 Paragraph OPORD? 1: Issue Warning Orders to subordinate Commands that a mission is being planned. More specific Warning Orders come out to specific Commands as Higher Level Commands finalize the Battle Plan. 2: Every Command Level uses the time management rule of D-Day minus 2/3RDs for preparation and 1/3RD for Planning your Level. If Division gives its 4 maneuver Brigades 14 Days to D-Day, then a Warning Order goes out to Battalions and then from Battalions to Companies. The Brigade Staffs then have 1/3 of 14 Days, 3 Days, to go through the Battle Planning Process. This means reading the Division 5 Paragraph OPORD, pulling out the parts related to your specific Brigade, and identifying your Objectives for the mission. 3: The the Brigade Staffs start to analyze their AO (Area of Operations), the Enemy forces they expect to encounter, the Friendly forces in their Command and on the Flanks, and then what the Commander’s Intent/Guidance is to complete the mission and achieve the Objective. The Military Intelligence Officer should always present Enemy Most Probable and Most Dangerous COAs (Courses Of Action). The Brigade XO and Tactical Officer should create 2 very different COAs to achieve the Objective. The Commander usually is making sure Battalions are preparing and physically making sure the routes of Battalions to the Start Line on D-Day is clear of obstacles or risk areas, like a bridge crossing. If a passage of Friendly lines needs to occur, coordinating with the MP Commander is always wise. 4: The Commander then returns to lead the Battle Planning Process. This leadership is usually only injected guidance. Multiple war games take place after the initial presentations. Each Friendly COA has to account for Enemy Most Probable/Most Dangerous COAs. NCOs create timelines for each Friendly COA and mark DPs (Commander Decision Points). The timeline and DPs help Commanders to make timely decisions as battles heat up and the TOC (Tactical Operations Center) gets confused. The Commander then has to pick the best COA. NOTE: Almost every Commander under which I served thought they were in a Chinese Restaurant after war gaming. They each took the parts or multiple COAs to create the final COA. This should require a final war game with NCOs making a new timeline and DPs. When this final war gaming was NOT done, there were always gaps in assets available to confirm DPs or the timelines made for Battalion misalignment in the AO. This can give Enemy Units counterattack opportunities. 5: This is where Brigade Staffs go to subordinate Battalions to OBSERVE the next Level down Battle Planning. If comments are made, they should only be to the Battalion Commander. Otherwise it’s micromanaging and create circular thinking. Besides the XO and Tactical Officer usually have to work with the Logistics Officer to finalize a support plan conforming to the Final COA. Most Logistics Officers have an AO sketch plan. However, this has to be edited so support does not become an easy target. 6: During execution of the Battle Plan, Brigade Commanders are usually near the main push. The Tactical Officer is near the secondary push. This gives Brigade Commanders opportunities to FRAGO or edit an OPORD if Enemy actions or terrain is other than expected. This means the XO is plotting and mapping the battlefield situation from the TOC. The Military Intelligence Officer is usually with him in the TOC. The Logistics Officer is also plotting and mapping the battlefield from his main supply point. If the XO has to move forward to replace an injured Commander, he is prepared. The Logistics Officer then moves forward to be in the XOs position. However, the Tactical Operations Officer is the person to replace the XO if they go down. 7: I have stated it takes at least 18 months to train up a Brigade including promoting the best Battalion Staff, training up NCOs at all Levels, creating Battalion Staffs, building out Companies, and taking in Basic Trainees with no experience. The whole process of Battle Planning is not easy. There are many things learned about leaders during war gaming. Using simulators for all Levels and plotting them on a giant electronic map board, can train Division Staff. It definitely can train Brigade and Battalion Staffs prior to Field Exercises. Actually moving around during Field Exercises can greatly enhance a Unit’s radio skills and discipline. There are Coordinating Instructions such as lines being crossed or points reach set by higher Command Level so they can understand situations. Practice is the only true teacher.
