I am usually not this blunt and try to find positive spins on MREs, and I have seen other videos of older R MREs that were in fact excellent, especially by having something we also have a lot of in Portugal, Spain and France, pates, concentrated animal protein very tasty and comforting (the fish based ones from Portugal are highly recommended by myself, sardine, tuna, macro, etc), but this one had nothing of it, and besides the chocolate, it really was a poor sight, only the peanuts and raisins, with the honey, could be used as "travelling on the go" food, and that dinner?... The British one, my friend, to the point, somewhat too sweet, but you are burning calories when you are moving, and it had details in it that made it comforting, some sweet tea with a biscuit, that main meal, a balanced MRE that I could see myself take on a hike... I'm not sure that comparing UK cuisine (being 50% British) with anything would ever be a fair comparison. Unless you are talking about chips or mushy peas. Still I suspect I would be less likely to be poisoned by the UK MRE.

I guess I'll cope with a tie for breakfast. Fun fact: Honey was found at an ancient Egyptian dig that was approximately 4000 years old, and it was still edible. Oooh the chocolate mousse with granola and cherries! Im calling lunch as a Brit win, solely based on that item. Even if you didnt get crackers with the tuna lol. You didnt dunk the biscuits (cookies) in the tea! I'll try to cut you some slack though. :) I forgot you are not a dark chocolate fan. I guess my idea of a win based on that mousse was wrong. Yey! We won lunch. (Im not gloating, promise) lol As soon as I saw the dinner was the black bean noodle main, I knew we would win the dinner. :) I loved this comparison review. (It wasnt just because we won.. I promise lol)

Imagine the Russian military thinking that they should tell them they can pickle stuff in their MRE bag. You'll be out in the field long enough to pickle stuff eating out of MREs without proper supplies.

@@MeAncient Absolutely. The Grand Armee of Napoleon did just that as they moved through Russia during the War of 1812. However, the Russians practiced scorched earth on their own land. When Napoleon entered Moscow it was empty of people and food and the Russians burned the city behind them. The 500k man army of France then basically starved and retreated. There is more to it than that. War and Peace is a good read on the war. It just seems rather depressing in today's time for a conscript in the 2020s to be given directions to ferment something in his MRE bag. Every home has utensils and stuff. Almost anything would probably make a better vessel. Fermenting would be to save from going bad for weeks/months. It really just seems odd they would add that direction. I'd love to ask a Russian conscript how they take that. Are you see it was an accurate translation?

quite different from the MREs in the US armed forces. I do wish ares were a 24 hour one because it got real old in basic eating dinner for 3 meals a day. especially since the MREs were horrible for me at the very least. I had to go on laxatives pretty damn soon into basic because the MREs caused me serious constipation issues. to the point once it had been 2 weeks with no passage.

I agree about a 24 hour meal for US. We do have one, but it's lame. It's called the First Strike Ration. I'll have to do a few comparisons on those. I was stopped up for a full week in boot camp from eating C Rats for a week. I thought there was something wrong with me but then I found out just about every other recruit was suffering the same effect. TFW
